JF-17 PFX program

@Faani83 shared this. From 6 minute onwards pfx is mentioned, a brand new design.

He also mentions "Resource Rationalization". Does it means reducing workforce number and increase tooth to tail ratio?

theres another 5 radars to be unveiled, thank NUST.
I wonder if the expertise can lead to a local AEW. With experience gained from Saab2000 erieye and radar development, I think it’s not farfetched to do it.

This rules out the block 4 being called pfx.
It might actually end up being a single engine medium weight stealth fighter. Or could they have started work on one of the design produced during project azm studies?
Calling the project JF-17 PFX might be showing the evolution from the jf-17 to new PFX fighter.
Although I’m still not sold on that totally new design idea, might still be a stealthy jf-17 in medium weight category.

Pakistan may have received turkish help regarding the design of the plane, they designed a few different planes for tfx but decided to go for the twin engine. Paf buying single engine design seems possible.

@Reichmarshal said PAF is "planning" to introduce a home manufactured/assembled awacs aircraft based on the saab 2000 system

Folks claiming PAF might be building a single engine stealth fighter to augment the FC-31/KAAN seem to be completely oblivious to the financial and technical muscle required to pull of such a feat. If FC-31 & KAAN are supposed to be the tip of the spear, then JF-17, J-10C & the F-16s will be the ideal workhorse. Even if the JF-17 & F-16 were taken off the equation, the J-10C will be entirely adequate to be the workhorse. The Chinese have no intention of retiring this jet for the next couple decades and might in fact build future variants.

This whole single engine 5th generation & 4.5 gen business is a hogwash and shows how desperate folks are to believe something when there’s really none there. This PFX name tag is intentionally confusing and I concur with other members that it’s nothing more than keeping the production lines churning along.

Please stop reading too much into this PFX business. It’s a silly pointless endeavor.

Absolutely spot on.

J-10CE was first decided to buy during Gen M era. 1.5B$ for 36 aircraft but the deal was cancelled by Gen M for unknown reasons. J-10CE was always in PAF planning. It was not a haphazard decision because india decided to buy the Rafale.
With Pakistan it is always the issue of funding and that's the main reason for delays in the procurement of major military projects.
BTW looking into the future PAF will have to decide between J-31 and KAAN not both. My bet is that KAAN will be available earlier than the J-31.

KAAN will be available, but with a US engine. I am afraid KAAN will become another T129 ATAK story.

Maybe not as Turkey has voted for Sweden into NATO and USA has resumed military sales to Turkey but yes you are right.

NASTP doesn't seem too bad but it's not something you can rely on as the core of your R&D, and it can do cool side projects and provide help - but I think Pakistan should start with basics and increase GDP spending on education and get decent STEM universities opened up
Currently the Pakistani university student is focused on freelancing and is frankly looking to drop out and make money directly instead of degrees that land jobs with peanut money.

Would it make even more sense that Ive actually peeled back a sticker with NRTC to reveal Aselsan?

Just to troll NRTC.

But this PFX deal is being hyped beyond what it is and the most logical conclusion is that its just more “indigenous” manufacturing of the JF-17 and independence from CAC which isn’t always the open supplier the “Higher than mountains, deeper than seas” rhetoric makes it out to be and for good reason.

Which is fine - it has benefits.
Imo no one will give pakistan a better deal than china. So why this development? Are they going Turkish equipment ~ ? They won't be cheaper or better.

That’s a misconception - this is just another local project in trying to move more production in house.

I find it astonishing that in a country with over 40% illiteracy and people not being able to read 'halwa' in Arabic (the same language as their religion), there's so much development going on in advanced aerospace. Job well done. It's like Somalia developing a Mars mission (no offense to Somalia).
