Racist attacks leave New Zealand's Indian community feeling 'hounded'

Is Japan losing its compassion as anti-foreigner sentiments grow?

TOKYO – An Indian man gave 30 years of his life to Japan, where he opened a humble curry house in suburban Tokyo 18 years ago and placed his two children in the public school system.

But Mr Manish Kumar, 54, now cries injustice at being expelled from the country after immigration authorities did not renew his Business Manager visa allegedly because of tightened guidelines enacted in October 2025.

Speaking tearfully at a conference at the Upper House Parliamentarians’ Office Building by a citizens’ group protesting against the new visa regulations earlier in May, Mr Kumar pleaded: “My children speak only Japanese and have only Japanese friends. I’ve made an honest living and bought a house. But the authorities are telling me to go back to India. How is this humane?

We are not going there to please every random Western racist.

India is still a developing country, and we will use globalisation wherever it benefits us. Globalisation is not some one way tool only for the West to profit from. So yes, Indians will go where opportunities exist, and India will bargain for its people. Cope.

Globalism is coming to an end very shortly. Multipolarity where there may be 3/4 centres of global power will become the new paradigm for the coming centuries. Such major global changes happen once every 800-1000 years.

It was America who wanted a free global economy for trade. Modern day Globalism is entirely a Western construct. Gunboat diplomacy did open up the world for American products + MFN clause directly benefitted the West. Now that China and others peers are competing against the US the West is going back to Bilateral treaties.

While it did help the developing economies for a time but now that is over. We are back to the Bilateral era.

That's why most countries including mine have been forming new BTA/BITs with EU + other nations.

Multipolarity doesn’t end globalisation. It just means more countries get to play the game.
India will trade with whoever benefits us, West, Gulf, East Asia, South America, anyone. The Western monopoly may be declining, not globalisation itself.
That suits India just fine.

I broadly agree. But these bilateral deals are still a net positive for larger countries like India. The UK deal and the EU deal, give India far more room to bargain on market access, services, visas and investment than the old Western led global trade order ever did.

Idher Japan main ye harami aanay shru ho gaey hain as tourists. You see them in groups hanging out in Tokyo/ Chiba/ Yokohama.

Mostly are well behaved but stand out like a sore thumb in public (lund appearance) they are very conscious/ nervous cuz here in Japan, any slightest badmashi will get them deported quick!

Yes if all clauses were specifically deliberated upon it's a net positive. WTO frameworks were more "consistent" though. We are losing that consistency for specific deliberation now. The smaller nations would find the older regime much more comfortable.

Nope, Indian "students" game the visa system and now that is being cracked down on
So the UK government is stupid enough to let more Indian students in, and also sign bilateral deals that make movement easier?
Even if your claim is true, that’s for the UK to fix. Until then, India will use every benefit it negotiates for its people. It’s only getting better for Indians going to the UK.

Yes, the past Tory government was stupid, I guess they did not know just how much Indians can abuse systems. I live here in the UK, things are certainly not getting better for Indians here, I can see it with my own eyes, you rely on Grok....

So the new bilateral treaty allowing greater movement of people is somehow proof things are getting worse for Indians? Ok 😂

Don't we (Pakistani Muslims) do the same ?

So racist and insensitive. Cool.

And what is say, shouldn't effect you. Just like what you say, doesn't effect me.

Nope since 2024 Indian immigration to UK has decreased sharply, and UK is finally tightening rules around student and work visas to stop abuse by Indians. It is better you come to a debate armed with facts rather then optimism. Personally cannot wait to see less Indians around here

You can keep waiting and hoping
