Axios reported this week that an unnamed Anthropic enterprise client managed to run up roughly $500 million in Claude charges in a single month after failing to put usage limits on employee licenses.

The company was not named, but we suspect Blue Origin might not be the only thing that blew up for Jeff Bezos this month.

IMO, there is a lot of legitimate concern regarding the expansion of AI. Here in AZ-land, we have an idiot for a governor who is unable to secure a good water deal for Colorado River water yet she's gung-ho on tearing up virgin desert and farm land for solar farms and AI data centers. There are legitimate concerns regarding power usage and heat generation.

There are legitimate privacy concerns. What will these data centers be doing?

Then there is concerns about job loss. For that one, a number of folks had better be looking at their life choices regarding careers. Had I remained working, my job the past year and a half would have been focused on expansion of robotics in our warehouses.

How bad will this deal end up being for me as a utility user, assuming of course, the local politicians selling us out, as usual, to corporate interests?

Do not fall for the local government promises, this is Oklahoma.

It is not just the fragility. Rates for domestic consumers are rising because of the bulk purchases of power for these centers on long term contracts (interestingly many have NDAs written into them), so utilities have less leftover for the individual customers.

Exactly.

That has been a big topic of discussion locally here in AZ-land. Our State AG, who for the most part has proven to be worthless, is actually addressing the concerns of the people regarding proposed rate increases for the consumers while data center developers are getting sweetheart deals.
 
Let's accept it: American politics is really getting way out there when it comes to absurd. Both sides are guilty yet I still believe the Democrats insist on taking absurdity to a whole new level. I offer you this:

Not surprisingly, two of the "sponsors" of this absurd bill are from my state. I guess they never heard that many employers offer sick time. What's worse is, not only can many of them not define what a woman is, women should somehow have special protections thanks to a naturally occurring thing. With some, it seems to be never ending. Perhaps that is the problem.
