FIFA World Cup 2026

shit

see @ShapurII the moment u called them dark horses they got cursed

on an unrelated note i see USA as the real dark horse
Damn, it's still pretty impressive for a country of their size to stop Spain and score against Uruguay. I'd still say they're performing well above expectations.

Agree. USA and Morocco for me.
I don't think Morocco fits the definition of a dark horse this year. Maybe in 2022, but not now. They have been consistently playing quite well in the last three world cups.

Personally, I have never liked Jahanbakhsh. He's always been an overrated player. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed watching him play. I'm sure if it ever happened, it was either in World Cup 2014 or even befor that.
Jahanbakhsh is a great leader and experienced player to have around the squad, but he doesn't add much to the team on the pitch.

He had that wonder season in the Netherlands when he won top scorer then won a big move to Brighton for £17m. Downhill since then, but that's still an impressive achievement.

That's a very good point. There is genuine expectation of Morocco now.

Whatever the result of this match now, I would not want to be facing Cape Verde in my final group match knowing I have to win!
It will not be easy for sure but it will be a much more open game. I doubt that they will be able to control the possession like Spain could. No better team in the world than Spain to keep possession and circulate the ball. I can see us beating them but I have no real expectations for this bunch of players (some of our best players are missing the World Cup to begin with), we have some useless and unknown German-Greek manager with cowardly tactics and inexplicable substitutions etc. Today against Spain our defense gifted all the goals practically, including 1 surreal own goal. Beyond worrying if that will be the defensive level against Cape Verde.

In reality, as I wrote, the team performed rather well against a great team like Uruguay a few days before. Defensively as well. The problem is that they lost their composure against Spain early on with 3 goals in quick succession, a fired up Spain playing their best game in a long time and players who were clearly afraid to make even simple passes.

This again shows bad coaching because the manager should have prepared the players for the Spanish onslaught.

I don't take friendlies seriously nor do I hardly watch them to begin with but the preparation games were bad as well.

No idea why the FA could not attract a better manager or follow the lead of Qatar who have had great success with Spanish managers. Our brothers in Qatar won the Asian Cup 2 times in a row for instance. Most of their team are mixture of naturalized Arabs turned Qatari citizens and locals but nevertheless.

No idea why we fired our French manager. He was great in many ways and also the guy behind the 2-1 victory against Argentina back in 2022 and the close games against Mexico and Poland. We played much better under him.

2-1 Uruguay. Good for the group. Means that Cape Verde has to attack in the last game as well and they can no longer sit back and hope for a draw to give them 3 points. In case they would draw against Uruguay.

Since Uruguay are leading 2-1, the conclusion drawn is that Uruguay is a better team than Spain because Spain could not score 1 single goal against Cape Verde! The same Uruguay team that could not defeat KSA.:ROFLMAO:

Morocco and Egypt are quality teams. Saudi Arabia is alot better, they have a good future, Iran has always been decent, Turkey is great team with world class players, just haven't done well this worldcup. Worldcup is difficult, many weaker teams play defensive and break better teams attack and then get a goal in.

I agree that Renard's sacking (especially just before a world cup!!) made zero sense. KSA have had some great managers, Mancini previously as well. The board lacks patience for some unknown reason.

Have people noticed how Spain and Uruguay changed their formations since the poor showing in the first match.
