I had the best 4th of July in a decade I had the house to myself until 11pm when the youngest and gf came home. I truly rested on the 4th and didn't get heat stroke.

Last night had some guests at the truck stop. A young couple with a license plate light out. And Nowata's finest.

Kicked it with the young couple for a few. Free fountain drinks.

Thankfully they didn't get a ticket, but both the city and county police were parked outside, waiting for the travelers to ignore the warning they got, replace the license tag light, or don't go on the highway.

Told the guy, it's Sunday. In the middle of nowhere. You are not going to find a replacement bulb. Just wait an hour or two until the sun comes up.

Meanwhile, the total shot count in Chicago on this holiday weekend keeps rising....



At least seven people were shot during a large street gathering in the East Garfield Park neighborhood early Sunday morning, according to Chicago police. Multiple shooters are believed to be responsible for the shootings, which unfolded while CPD officers, including at least one commander and a deputy chief, were already on the scene because of the size of the crowd.

Here's Davey's Hallmark moment for July 4th, 2026


Five local buckaroos come into the truck stop after midnight.

One hands me a hundred dollar bill for his purchase. Another says, "Bet you don't know where he got that hundred dollar bill from?"

The five of them, ages 15-17, went to a rodeo next county over for July 4th. The kid standing in front of me won $1,200 for eight seconds on a bull.

Fist bump.

I can remember going to July 4th BBQs in Tennessee. The host will, of course, show us guys where we can walk out back to take a piss.

It was always a nice touch with the Israeli flag marking the spot in the woods.
