This was a tame beating, no VAR shouts, no major fouls, all with a bit of effort from Belgium just trying without some of their usual big names. 1-4 win was with Belgium being nice so far.

Portugal out, Brazil out, Dutch out, Germany out. This is supposed to be your top sport, it’s not ours. I’d rather be judged on the breadth of our sporting achievements than a single soccer tournament held every 4 years. Sure, I’d love to see our men’s side breakthrough the round of 16, but do you think I’d trade our men’s hockey gold this year for a quarterfinals appearance? Absolutely not

This is a football thread. Sporting achievements by country can be written in another thread. Otherwise Cape Verde were legendary by qualifying and performing compared to the Americans.

US hosted this time, round of 16 was the best they could do. They got handled by a better team. They have another four years to compete with the world again. Now the foreign teams will win the tournament on US soil.

Congratulations to Belgium indeed and for the US team performing at their best level today.
