This was a tame beating, no VAR shouts, no major fouls, all with a bit of effort from Belgium just trying without some of their usual big names. 1-4 win was with Belgium being nice so far.

Round of 16 in 4 of the last 5 World Cups in a sport that is historically an afterthought for our men’s side. Not great, but not terrible.

Portugal out, Brazil out, Dutch out, Germany out. This is supposed to be your top sport, it’s not ours. I’d rather be judged on the breadth of our sporting achievements than a single soccer tournament held every 4 years. Sure, I’d love to see our men’s side breakthrough the round of 16, but do you think I’d trade our men’s hockey gold this year for a quarterfinals appearance? Absolutely not
