FIFA World Cup 2026

3 referees in yesterday's match Egypt vs Argentina were French.
And now all the 5 officials will be from Argentina for the QF match in between Morroco and France.

So educate me on this. How does FIFA select the referees for the matches? Is it done in advance?

Frankly, it is statistically impossible for all officials to be from Argentina for the MOR-FRA match.

Also, did a quick search. Based on the two links below, the "selection" for Thursday's match is even more suspect:

The first article is actually humorous.

Not sure if that's true

wouldn't be surprised

Argentinians are well known cheaters

I hope England destroy them after Norway

and I mean smash they need to get them back for 1986

Some of the cope on this thread is getting silly.

There is a case the referees need to answer for but hyperbole really doesn't help Egypt's cause.

World football is in a farcical state at present. No denying that. Take the Afcon final as a lead example. Then there was the whole Balogun issue just now.

Despite all of that being the case, one only needs look at the game stats to see that Argentina were piling the pressure onto Egypt because of poor game management by Egypt.

Had Argentina not scored 1 or even 2 controversial goals, who here can say with absolute sincerity that Egypt were: (a) the better team on the day and/or (b) still likely to win? I don't think either of those criteria would have held true.

That support group I suggested could be a good one membership-wise.

Read an article last night that FIFA had suspended two US officials just prior to the Belgium match. Reason was not disclosed.

Please post the link if you get a chance. Sounds intriguing.
