ISLAMABAD: A Senate panel on Friday unanimously approved a bill seeking to allow the issuance of blue passports to dependent children under the age of 28 of ex-members of parliament, bringing them in line with the existing entitlement available to dependent children of retired Grade-22 government officers.

The Members of Parliament Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2026, was introduced as a private member’s bill by Senator Abdul Qadir and approved by the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control during a meeting chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rahman.

Minister of State for Interior Muhammad Talal Chaudhry supported the passage of the bill and said the recommendations would be placed before the cabinet for finalisation by the competent authority.

During deliberations, members discussed the implications of the passport policy, including its possible impact on Pakistan’s international passport ranking, before unanimously approving the proposed legislation for the onward legislative process.

The committee also took up the scandal involving the disappearance of cigarettes worth Rs250 million from Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) godowns in Swabi and Mardan, which took a contentious turn after FBR officials told the panel that the names of officers allegedly involved could not be placed on the Exit Control List before completion of legal proceedings.

During the meeting, FBR officials also said investigative agencies were required to seek the department’s permission before initiating inquiries against FBR officers. They argued that ECL placement could only follow due legal process.

Why should ex-legislators, let alone their wives and children, get blue passports? None of them are traveling on official business. They want the ease of travel a blue passport provides, not realizing that it cheapens the green passports for others.

Agree. Corruption of this sort is reprehensible. Shameless. I hold their womenfolk responsible for demanding privilege - it's an age old story sadly.

54,000 blue passport and 1900 red passport.....who got that many ??? ...

Bandar bant... at least KPK should have avoided that, as it wasn't a coalition govt.
Just a Q, do UN peacekeepers get a blue or not? 54k is a large number.

I have held the blue passport (official passport) as a child previously , as my dad’s job required it as he was in foreign office (needed when going abroad on postings) but even at that time it was not easy to get Visas. Still needed Note Verbale and sometimes those were tough to get accepted. (Reputation)
There was very little consideration by many countries and you still had to fulfill requirements and pay fees etc. Back then even the blue passport was manual (hand-written).

Not sure if it makes things easier nowadays being e-passport/MRP but i feel its an unnecessary overreach of entitlement by these corrupt and idiotic people.

If u keep issuing it to everyone it will cheapen it further and erode its reputation further, countries like America and Canada and even Schengen states and Aus/NZ still don’t respect it and will want their requirements fulfilled before visa issuance and now with biometrics its not really possible to do fraud abroad

AND:

Official Passport is NOT considered valid for IMMIGRATION to Canada. You still need Regular passport for that!

I’m sure these idiots don’t even know this! LOL.

They can try getting preferential treatment at Pakistani airports but not elsewhere when they get pulled by Immigration officials.

Even our own FIA at airports can still stop and demand further documentation from people holding official ppts (when traveling in private capacy)…..trust me, seen it happen many times. Even seen Rejected Visas on Official Passports! Lol

Yes anyone in official capacity would get those when sent on posting abroad be it military or govt.
