The real IRGC generals all died in Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria the last decade. The ones left in Iran were the ones that wanted the cushy desk job and the comfort of their bed and who didn’t want to leave their families. And even then Israel killed a large amount of them.
So now it’s up to Vahidi and a few hardline generals against all the pragmatics, centrists, and reformists inside Iran (including within the IRGC itself) who just want to get a “deal”.
It’s a sorry state of affairs in the Republic right now. Too many of them are disillusioned that if they compromise on Hormuz and give away the enriched uranium, that the U.S. will drop its vendetta on Iran.
No, the problem is that we're currently saddled with a government much like Bani-Sadr's.
