This is an unmitigated disaster for the GCC states who were trying to sell themselves as beacons of stability, it is unmitigated disaster for Iran has it has hurt them economically, it has been an unmitigated disaster for the USA who has got themselves trapped in a war they are struggling to get out of.

The winners are China in all this. Once again, sitting on their arse's and just winning..

Yup, Iraq and Afghan wars gave China a massive head start as so much US soending went on war/COIN ops etc whilst China invested in conventional warfare/aviation.

US will need a massive effort just to replace lost equipment and missiles, while China continues to not only modernise but churn out planes and ships as if they were choclate cakes....

It is very simple. US assets in Israel are much better protected than a desalination plant in Kuwait. Also, Israel will retailiate far more strongly. That is why Iran is picking on the weakest targets, which is what anyone in their position would do. In our own case, GHQ bombs Afghanistan and not India when FAH/FAK carry out attacks.

What they can and can't afford is not up for debate here, I was replying to your rather simplified comment regarding Saudia Arabia which is a partner for Pakistan since our independence.

In that case, we have no choice. Initially, Iran also attacked Israel and each of the GCC countries. Now, they are avoiding Israel, Saudi, UAE, and also mostly Qatar and Oman. Given a choice of targets, it is rational to choose those with the least capacity to retaliate.

I know, so Haritzem Air Base is nice and quiet and Pakistanis cannot reach or leave Bahrain due to Iran now taking out it's civilian air control.
