The situation of J-35 procurement is slightly more bemusing and typical overextending, hype and reality bites.
But take note that maturity isn’t just on the J-35 but also PAF infrastructure which needs to be at a place to fully exploit the platform.
There is also other “customers” both internal and external for SAC who have pushed priority and regardless of “Deeper than Marianas Trench claims” there has been “pushback” by the Chinese on delivery timing.

these ex servicemen need money, their pensions arent enough. Their entire livelihoods stem from these kinda appearances where they make bold claims, in the hopes someone else will invite them on, and so on. My general rule is if an ex officer makes a bold claim, hes just looking for somoene to pay the electricity bill and to disregard.

Hasn't the fifth gen become redundant, so perhaps Pakistan should wait for the Chinese sixth gen platform to mature for real decades into the future impact.....

Actually once you are retired. Then you simply are not in the loop. They have no inside news on strategy, on procurement, or just anything at all. They are simply doing analysis as an outsider / retired official.
I won't consider the money factor though. Forces in Pakistan above brigadier level (air commodore for AF) are usually well off unless they are chasing some extreme lifestyle.

A general observation based on years of working with the armed forces: Once an officer retires, they are no longer privy to the decisions being made within the service. The longer they have been retired, the further removed they become from current developments and internal deliberations, including on weapons acquisitions. While the present leadership may include officers who were once their juniors or subordinates, those serving officers are not liable to respond to them, and they usually don't when it comes to institutional priorities. All decisions and details of present and near-future weapons acquisition rest exclusively with the current leadership. Finally, something more specific: I have seen that PAF leadership, or at least the ones I have interacted with, avoids jumping the gun. They thoroughly study everything and do cost analysis before acquisitions. This is generally true for upper-middle ranks who are involved in evaluations, testing, budgeting, etc.
Long story short: Only the serving PAF leadership and the officers directly involved in the acquisition of fifth-generation aircraft are likely to know the true status of the J-35 induction. As was the case with the J-10C acquisition, the timing of any announcement or induction could come as a surprise.
