1. The problem with nationalists (of any nation be it Bangladeshis as well or even religious fundamentalists) is that they de-humanise the other and label whole groups of heterogenous peoples as one monolithic entity as being X and being Y. All Hindus are X and all Muslims are Y. (There is bigotry from both sides including Islamic extremists, Jamaatis etc btw) The truth is very nuanced. India's Muslims are not a homogenous community in any way shape or form including ethnicity, caste, religious school of thought. Some Indian Muslims from "upper caste" families are "forbidden" to marry lower-caste Muslims. Some Muslims are very sectarian e.g. Sufi v Salafi/Wahabi and declare each other as disbelievers. Some Hindus are good people and have better personalities than some "Muslims". Religious fundamentalists and radical nationalists ignore the individual humanity of individual people and focus on the group identity. I think some of the extreme sectarianism of some Muslims then helps fuel Hindutva and the BJP/RSS have ammunition to cherry pick controversial statements from some Muslims and promote hatred.

2. Despite all that India was long admired post WW2 for being a post-colonial progressive state that sought the betterment of (non-white) developing nations and anti-communalism was deeply rooted in the psyche of its elite. However as we can see this has ended. What probably prevents the BJP from their wet dreams of mass ethnic cleasning of Bengali Muslims is just sheer practicality and the logistical impossibility of it, the Modi-Shah regime have tried to kidnap Bengali Muslim families in west Bengal and send them to the Bangladesh border and forcibly throw them on our soil. We have said no. If Modi and Shah are not careful then they and the likes of Jaishankar could one day be tried in court for crimes against India citizens such as abduction and torture. A few months ago trolls on this forum would have laughed at such a statement. Now there is widespread calls for Amit Shah's resignation and a possible trial and it's not even impossible Modi might go.

Please refrain from using strong language like "foolish" and "complete lie". Islam in its original form has no caste obviously but as the centuries went innovations were added to the religion. One of these in south Asia was the emergence of the caste system amongst Muslims no doubt heavily influenced by the Hindu caste system.

The 'fatwa jalandhari' even tried to give this religious legitimacy.

It wasn't just about inter-marriage they even went as far as to say in terms of even religious duties such as being an Imam or even calling the adhan that this should be restricted to people of 'Ashraf' ("upper-caste i.e. Arab, Afghan, Persian, Turkish lineage) and not to inferior 'Pasmanda' (local converts). This is a serious issue amongst Indian Muslims and academic texts have been written on it. However it's no way as bad as the Hindu caste system, but not acceptable anyway.
