Not 'always' a dream. Difficult but possible. The Iranian President's first visit was to Pakistan a day after the Islamabad MOU was signed and in the visit, IIRC, he talked about a 'regional security framework'.
The Middle Eastern alliances and dynamics are rapidly changing since the Iran war. A change in Washington's posture in the Middle East is what's needed and POTUS Vance today will not surprise me to see positive changes in the Middle East.

Pakistanis keep wanting Iran to be part of a military bloc of Muslim nations. However, ordinary Iranians are far too conditioned by their government’s worldview to seriously consider joining a bloc that does not accommodate or support Iran’s regional ambitions.

Let’s leave Iran out for now. They first need to prove that they can be a constructive and trustworthy partner. For the time being, everyone is better off without them.

Pakistan will never sign a defence pact with Iran that does not include Saudi Arabia as one of its founding members. Cartoon-e-Azam Imran Khan tried to pursue that sort of arrangement, and he ended up in the dustbin of history.

Bottom line: Iran needs to establish a very strong and positive relationship with Saudi Arabia before any such defence pact can realistically be envisaged.

F**k Iran. They need to stop causing trouble in Pakistan, change their behaviour to Gulf states and stop this wet dream of another Persian empire. Region can move on without Iran, both militarily and economically. No need to buy into the myth they perptuate about their own importance. Cannot even defend their air space, what use would they be in an alliance?

It's a good dream and achievable...what choices do Iran have in the near to midterm future ? Not much , she has to climb down from her rhetorics and be part of the regional dynamics....Iran can't play the nasty , badass madman for too long.

It's unfair to be critical of just Iran.

Both Saudi Arabia and Iran have to tone down and come to an understanding. Both needs to put their differences aside and understand that this Sunni-Shia game is a farce. The most important thing, is flying under the banner of Islam, rather than its sects. But with so many insecurities between them, especially after this war, it will take a very long time for their relationship to heal.

But yes, I agree we need to be positive and hope for the best. Maybe I should hope for such a dream to happen because it would really be a very strong Islamic bloc.

Technical issues holding Egypt back could be both “legal and operational”, Elgendy added. “On the legal side, Egypt needs to know exactly what it is committing to defend, and it will want assurances so that a signature never reads as a commitment against Israel"

In my perfect world, it would be Iran joining this agreement.

It would provide a land and air bridge for Pakistan to counter India.

Saudi Arabia: Financial Power
Turkey: Military Industry.
Iran: Ballistic missiles and one-way drones capability
Pakistan: Nuclear power


This would have caused serious vibrations within the think tank in Israel and India.

However. This will always be a dream.

Before Iran joins, all this proxy issue needs to be resolved! But yes Iran joining is icing on the cake and it will significantly strengthen this bloc!

The defence pact is all about developing the defence industry within the bloc. The members would share technology, manpower and costs. Ultimately, it would strengthen our own countries and defence industries.

Egypt faces no major external threats, and neither does Türkiye.

Saudi Arabia faces a threat from Iran, while Pakistan faces threats from India and Afghanistan.

Rhetorics of pan Arabism and Islamic solidarity aside , north African countries are quite distinct from their middle Eastern counterparts and their economic and security interests diverge from each other...
At it's core Makkah alliance is meant to safeguard the interests and security of the GCC countries along with Syria and Jordan.... GCC ain't getting any security guarantee without paying for it... that's the bottom line and realpolitik 101 .
