Actually, he lost his credibility a long time ago.

Congress is doing worse because of the kind of leadership it has in India. They have sidelined or pushed out several capable leaders, seemingly to remain loyal to the current Gandhi family leadership instead of encouraging independent and strong voices within the party.

If they had democratically chosen a capable leader in Congress, Modi might not have continued for a third term. But instead, they chose to engage in bootlicking of the current Gandhi family leadership and got incapable leadership
