Prices for Gaming Laptops are crazy right now due to the Ram and Memory Shortages

Here is my previous server which got toasted OS from a storm about 10 days ago. Even the backup was corrupted; pretty odd considering I had a surge protector. This one is Lenovo Thinkpad and now a fresh OS install using Rufus. And I have to painfully setup a lot of software on it to make it my on the couch laptop. But I think the storm did me a favor in a way: The Thinkpad is lighter in weight, has backlit keyboard.
IIRC, I had paid less than $300 each for the Thinkpad as well as for the Dell Precision 7520 several years ago on Ebay; their processors are too old for Windows 11 requirements but brother Rufus is amazing to go around those requirements--and incredibly, Microsoft itself provides Rufus from their site.
PS. My devices are named after cartoon characters and so 'Homer' and 'Bart'!

I don’t understand why would anyone use a laptop as a server, unless learning.

I sometimes use Mini pc as a server but that is for temporary projects and then move to real server when the project is ready

Right. Mine are just hobby servers--learning and sometimes showing my samples of work to the world. That's why I am not sweating much over the old server decommissioned for last several days. The new server has a placeholder page saying something like 'down for a major upgrade'. Haha!

I remember buying Dell XPS 17, 9700 (now 5 years old)… for gaming.

I only played one game on it for 2 weeks before getting bored.

Now I have two laptops of Dell XPS 17 and MacBook Pro M4. They both do the job for me depending on my needs.

It’s too much money to spend on a gaming laptop if you are not going to play a lot of games in my opinion

Not quite entirely. There are a few cheap cheap boutique builders that let you customize with RAM and SSD.

But it's wildly expensive now. At least here in the U.S.

If one is lucky though, a Costco or micro center sometimes have open box specials. and scratch and dents

Of course, that's assuming one lives near either of those places. And I've heard stories about people literally stealing the RAM and ssds right out of them.

. Gaming laptops have come a long way that's for sure! However, there's still no match for a desktop version with equal desktop parts

Gaming laptop is a misnomer. Most gaming laptops go bust in a few years, play games on a console or PC.

I dont do gaming, but to have good computer with much lower price then the solution is to buy upgradable laptop and then upgrade it by ourselves

You should use Ventoy instead of Rufus. Its much easier to use and has multiple OS support

btw - since we are here. Does anyone have a recommendation for how to make a full ISO of an existing HDD/Windows 11 installation so that I can archive it and full restore it to a blank HDD(SSD) in the future?

I want to be able to switch between Linux and Windows on the same SSD ( and backup installations fully etc ).

Made a purchase from Lenovo yesterday and the prices are very high right now.

Final cost after student discount and coupons was 2,58,000 inr for me which is equivalent to 2700 usd.

It's the RTX 5070 12gb + OLED model.

For the gamers in Pakistan, how are the prices there right now.

Almost decided to get a PS5 instead but the console is EOL at this point and I cannot warrant a purchase just for GTA6 at 30-60fps on 1440p

have you looked at a used gaming laptop with ddr4 ram, ddr5 ram prices are too high right now but they will come down as major ai firm a re scaling back on their dc building spree. nvme ssd prices are already coming down.
