Bangladesh plans $2.2b purchase of 20 Chinese J-10 fighter jets

The reason why there have been some J10CE sales recently is because of the performance of the J10CE in the PAF. The PAF has the perfect ecosystem of support platforms, datalinks and AEW&C to get the full military capability out of the J10CE.

Bangladesh does not have this ecosystem yet, it has no datalinks, or AEW&C and IADS, Radar network, SAM network etc like PAF has.

The J10CE is a node in Pakistan's AD environment which is why it worked so well.

The last thing China wants to do, is sell the J-35AE to a country that is not ready for it, and have its reputation affected by poor performance because of local air force issues and not necessarily with the J-35AE.

Bangladesh would do well to start with the J10CE at least, if not with the JF17C to build that ecosystem, infrastructure and training of personnel in place before it can think of getting a stealth platform.

Currently the BAF has 8 x Mig29s which look like they are not operational due to engine maintenance issues, and 35 x F7BG's which have no BVR capability etc. I can't see how BAF doctrine has anything in place for stealth platforms given the existing building blocks in place.

Yes it’s all about datalink

Like you said it wasn’t just JC10 and JF17 alone, PAF USED the JF-17 with the JC-10c and AWACs to fire BVR missiles, which were guided by AWACs so the Indian Rafals Sukhoi mirages Amiga etc never realised they’d been fired until thy went “Pitbull” with in the MAR (minimum abort range) so Indian jets found out it they had no answer and could not dodge them.

People think mistakenly, JC10 alone is a some sort of a super aircraft it’s not.

What BAF REQUIRES

A jet like Jf-17 the key thing JF-17 is it’s ammunition, it is capable of carrying advance BVR like PL-15 and variety of anti ship and and Air to land role cruise missiles it’s a low cost fighter it has a decent ARSA radar that is all people or Bangladeshis need to know:

Jeez … 🤡

Just a fact. JF-17 is the PAF version of JC10c in different airframe a bit downgraded kinematics, importantly they share almost same avionics and radar and weapons.

Pointless purchase if it happens.

J-35 is in service and BAF should push for that if China is willing to sell.

The BAF needs to start at a lower baseline and get used to flying, servicing a 4th generation jet. Master this and then it's the next move up.
The J-35 is an advanced machine which requires expert flying, complex facilities etc.

By buying a 4th generation jet combat proven, ( exampleJF-17) saves enough money so that they BAF can buy AWAC and tankers too.. By flying JF17, give them’s access to other Chinese jets.

First of all, SAAB AWACS did not guide PL-15. Such capability simply doesn't exist. Don't you read your own threads? It is literally been established by reputable Pak members.

"Wang Haifeng (Vice Chief Designer of J-20, Chief Designer of J-36) disclosed that J-10C performed the lock/shoot of Rafales/Mirage/Su/Mig using its own radar. Erieeye has enough fidelity to provide general direction but not fire control level guidance."

Yeah, buying AWACS is such a great idea for BAF! BD's airspace is only 200km+ wide at the shallowest point. Those slow flying giants is simply going to be target practice for enemy defensive counterair. What Bangladesh needs to do is to rely on its mobile long range ground based radars for ground-controlled interception (GCI). There is no strategic depth to fly AWACS.

And tankers? Lol.

Bangladesh has prepared a draft agreement upon negotiation meetings to buy J10CE fighter" According to Prime minister's information advisor.

(Note that- this news article got the English translation slightly wrong. It says, 'draft agreement for negotiation meeting.' But that's not exactly what information advisor said.)

‘During the India–Pakistan war, Indian Rafale fighter jets were shot down by Chinese-made J-10s, and this information has now been established,’ he said at a press conference on the progress of various government activities at the Secretariat.

‘So, it has performed very well in combat against the Rafale, which is considered one of the most advanced 4.5-generation fighter aircraft in the world. Bangladesh has paid attention to this, and hopefully we will move forward very well in this direction.’

added that Chinese fighter aircraft are comparatively much cheaper than European alternatives of similar quality, such as the Rafale or Eurofighter Typhoon, despite outperforming them head-to-head.

‘So, I hope our government will take all necessary measures to ensure the defence of the people. This is a very important matter. I have spoken a little more on this issue, and I would like to mention something else that is also very important,’ he said.

Addressing Bangladesh’s ‘new independence’, Zahed clarified that they do not view it as a second independence and that it cannot be compared with 1971.

‘We have no confusion about this. Some people have put 2024 and 1971 on the same scale and claimed that 2024 weighs more. That is utter stupidity,’ he said.

‘Why do we affectionately call it a second independence? Because Bangladesh was once unable to make strategic decisions in its foreign and defence policies based on its own interests. In that sense, we have actually become independent. Holding discussions to buy J-10 aircraft would not have been possible before 5 August. This is why we talk about this independence.’

Man when the jeeeets got shot down, before it came on the news... bangladeshi air force personnel came to know about it. Amazing times

A question... what's stopping bd flying over its maritime territory for strategic depth?
