Russia relied heavily on air defense and production facilities are mostly on open terrain. Recently Ukraine acquired ew pods from European countries attaching them to their one way attack drones reducing effectiveness of Russian air defense.

Russia needs to go to Iran route of carving up Ural mountains to make production storage facilities for their drones-missiles. Ukranian drones are not bunker busting they only reach surface level. They also dont have air force to drop bunker penetrating bombs.

Iran can help Russia to make mountain-underground hardened bases for storage and even production of parts. However Putin likes double games as near history shows and some of his influential oligarchs are connected to isreal so confidential items like security measures about ventilations shafts or some mountain entrence protection measures should not be shared with Russia.

Russia doesnt need extra protection anyways. Only one way attack drones of Ukraine are the threat as of right now. Ukraine is working on ballistic missiles too but making them accurate and penetrating is another ball game which would take a lot of time for Ukraine. Russia can devise ventilation shafts themselves and ballistic missiles dont work on penetrating through ventilation shafts. Mountain base entrence points can be located away from ballistic missile trajectories also excavators inside mountain bases can work to reopen gates once they are closed after bombing. These are known tactics and can work well against Ukranian future ballistic missiles.

This way with drone cooperation and base building assitance with Russia, Iran would secure the transport route with Russia for raw materials and production even under heavy sanctions from Usa in addition to the Pakistan China route.

That’s a chicken game, whatever the Russians do next, the Ukrainians will do the counter, and vice versa.
Maybe it’s cheaper to spend money on useful things instead of throwing more men, more weapons into trash bin.

Not much counter against mountain bases unless ukraine gets a capable airforce to drop bunker buster bombs from ventilation shafts or destroy main gates by cruise missile swarms but it is not a permanent solution either the gates are reopened from inside after a while.

But Russian infantry tactics seem to be awful looking at the videos it is like a death row being in an assault group waiting to get hit by an fpv drone in the open. Ukraine uses ugvs extensively. Russia needs to use them too for both as bait to locate Ukranian fpv drone teams by other drones and also to attack Ukranian ground positions attaching explosives-machine guns. Ukraine has starlink advantage but Russian ugvs would be short range attacking nearby positions so more resistant to jamming. Also electric motors would make it less visible to infrared at night time attacks.

Ugvs and Uavs can be produced-assembled in mountain bases and stored there.
