India has obtained dialogue partner status in the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP), led by the United Kingdom, Japan and Italy. This opening comes as New Delhi pursues its Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and simultaneously seeks to contain the numerical and technological growth of China’s air forces.

Its participation in GCAP does not call this national programme into question, but it now puts Indian officials in contact with a 6th-generation combat aircraft expected around 2035.

Potential areas: stealth, sensors, electronic warfare, networking, AI/autonomy and engines.
Indian companies could potentially get industrial/supply-chain opportunities.
It could help India develop AMCA and future fighter technologies.
But classified designs, source codes and sensitive IP won't automatically be shared.
Deeper technology access would likely require India to become a formal programme partner or sign specific technology/industrial agreements.

I think both projects are equally good but with GCAP waiting period will be smaller... also we are buying 100 plus Rafales and now if we go again with FCAS then we will be putting our all fruits into a single basket.... rollsroyce engine offer also looks attractive....

still hope something is done on time with either of this project....

Before trying to join France project, India and also Saudi Arabia try to join this GCAP project.

Dialog partner is less than Observer partner given to Canada.

While Singapore also want to join, we see wheter they will get observer or dialoge partner.

While the developers will likely be only for Britain, Japan, and Italia. I would say to be invited as the development partner it needs high trust, this is why India is previously invited for join development for Russian project despite it is not ended well for India, but Russia and India have already had close relationship.

By the time the first Indian 6th generation fighter is inducted into the airforce I guarantee China would be 8th generation by then.

India can't even make indigenous 4th generation at the moment and is joining every project it can hop onto. Thing is India just wants to show this off as vanity for Modi but never do the hard work and get real results.

India doesn't need to pay simply to be a dialogue partner, but any eventual purchase, development participation, or specific technology-transfer arrangement would require separate agreements and likely financial/industrial commitments.
