Su-30MKI set for a bigger bite? India weighs 300-km Russian RVV-BD missile upgrade

Pakistan will always maintain first shot advantage, the PAF has been clear on that. At best, this missile may pose some threat to the Erieyes only, but the track record of this missile in Ukraine is awful at best anyway. The range, as with all things Russian, is massively inflated and the actual range will be a lot less anyway. We know the numbers for the performance of the radar for the Su30MKI (Raptor of the East/mini-awacs) with its actual performance with 2 x Su30MKI shot down by the PAF to date.

Pakistan can get the required information from Ukraine on the actual field performance of this missile as a matter of course anyway.

Ahh, can’t we say the same when India is already evaluating the P-15 missiles?

You simply can’t generalize it like that. “Who can shoot first” depends entirely on the specific scenario, timing, situational awareness, targeting, and operational planning during the time frame. There is no universal rule that one side will always get the first shot.

Russians certainly understand Indians very well. Whenever Russians are desperately short of money, they always manage to make a substantial profit from "shrewd Indians."

Even though Indians have been burned by the Russians countless times, they remain very willing to keep the process going.

Well. Russian has milked china over the past decades for selling technologies, and weapons.. not less than india.

China bought large numbers of Russian aircraft, air-defence systems, missiles, engines, ships, and associated technologies. Examples include Su-27/Su-30 fighters, S-300 air-defence systems, Sovremenny destroyers, and numerous missile/engine technologies.

Why

Why? Is there an official, universally defined classification for 4.5 Gen? because if you are referring to AESA radar, it is a common feature of many 4.5-gen fighters, but it is not what alone makes an aircraft 4.5 generation. and it's not mandatory to have it

Overall avionics, sensors, weapons and flight-control architecture were substantially more advanced than the original 4th-generation baseline.

4.5th Gen is AESA, high capacity data link and long range BVR.

SU-30MKI (In it's current form) does not have this, no use trying to paint a turd.

It was good for the 90s, now it is obsolete or veering on obsolete.

The Rafales India has are true 4.5th Gen, comparing an SU-30MKI to them is just....well...bizarre.....

Maybe next time thinks before you type, cause truth hurt more, we did learn a lot from the Russian and can we say the same about India?

For example, we are moving on to test our own VCE engine, and our southern neighbor still struggle on kaveri.

Don't take on your EGO, these are the facts.. just Google it

The way Chinese talk about India as if Russians gave China everything for free without ,milking them....

The 4 x Rafales (Tails : BS-001, BS-021, BS-022, and BS-027 ), 1 x Su30MKI, 1 x Mig-29, 1 x Mirage-2000 + 1 x UAV that PAF shot down should have given you plenty of "experience" of the PL15E... :)

Please don’t bring up anything that is based on so-called “claims,” because that is useless to discuss in general. Most of these claims are based on hype and propaganda without any solid evidence.
There is already a dedicated thread for such discussions about India–Pakistan, where people can enjoy discussing these kinds of claims.

On this question of whether MKI can be considered a 4.5 gen fighter. It is true there is no strict definition of any generation fighter, much less a largely marketing driven 4.5 gen definition which are all based on 4th generation fighter designs.

The main leap between 4th and 4.5 gen in technology has been below the design, basically avionics - communications and networking technology, ESM suite, weapons compatibility with newer weapons developed post 2000. The main factor I would say is using electronically scanned arrays.

What are some universally agreed upon fighters that can be considered 4.5 gen and what are their qualities in relation to that list?

F-15EX, in fact any F-15 after Saudi and Qatari variants. AESA radars featured.

J-16 - AESA from first block J-16 since mid 2010s.

J-15T - AESA.

J-10C - AESA.

Typhoon - early versions did not have scanned arrays but pretty much most service units have been delivered with scanned arrays or upgraded to ones.

Rafale - same as Typhoon regarding radar deliveries and upgrades.

Su-35 - PESA.

Gripen E/F - AESA.

F-18E/F - AESA.

F-16 block 70/72 - AESA.

All of these fighters sport the latest weapons their nations have developed.

Su-30MKI came out with a Russian PESA. Not terrible today and certainly good enough when it came out. We don't have a clue about ESM package and comms just like with the list of 4.5 gens.

I think Su-30MKI would just be missing advanced modern weapons packages to be considered early 4.5 gen like early Typhoon and Rafale and J-10B. It probably doesn't have the best comms and ESM given the hodge podge nature of fitting Israeli, French and Russian components and the opsec of the whole endeavour.

Amazing, world class by 1990s standards (before the era of MKI introduced into IAF so this is a pointless thing), good by 2000s standards when it was introduced, okay/acceptable by 2010s standards, outdated by 2020s standards and will be relic by 2030s standards.

Rest of the world and many world leaders agree with these claims. If they were not true India has had almost 18 months to just admit what it lost. If you cannot do that, seems like Pakistan is the only one in posession of the FACTS

It was a game changer when it was inducted into the IAF around 25 years ago, and at the time, the Su-30MKI was considered one of the most capable 4.5-generation fighters in service.

Unfortunately, similar to the F-15 and F-16, the Su-30MKI did not receive the upgrades it needed to maintain that technological edge over the years.

The Su-30MKI only needs a comprehensive modernisation. With a modern AESA radar, next-generation long-range air-to-air missiles, an improved electronic-warfare suite, upgraded sensors, avionics, data links and mission computers, the Su-30MKI would remain one of the most capable 4.5-generation fighters in service for many years.

At least till 2040.

so, Russians have successfully managed to sell you something, which has shot down many AWACS and quite a lot of F-16s!

good choice!

Not to mention visual confirmation from most of the downed fighters, literally denying something that is captured on camera's, truly a hopeless nation.
