NAGOYA, Japan, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Kazakh race walker Yasmina Toxanbayeva's Asian Games gold medal has been annulled following disqualification from the women's marathon event for wearing unsanctioned shoes.

Toxanbayeva crossed first in the event on Sunday in three hours, 22 minutes and 20 seconds, nearly four minutes ahead of China's runner-up Danzengquzong, but the results remained provisional pending a protest.

"Athletes must wear only those shoes approved and listed on a World Athletics platform. She was not wearing one, which is why we wrote to World Athletics," a technical official said on Monday.

"Cancelling the gold was their decision, which we conveyed to the athlete. The athlete has a right to appeal to the jury, and she has done that."

Toxanbayeva confirmed the annulment on social media.
"We fought until the end," she said in an Instagram post. "Thank you to all my super-heroes who fought with me to the very end."

Danzengquzong was upgraded to the gold, with compatriot Ma Li earning silver ahead of Japan's bronze-winner Yukiko Umeno.

Stripping an athlete of gold medal for wearing wrong shoes is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Bahrain is giving much tough time to China in track and field. My question to seniors is, in Swimming we see many world class Chinese swimmers (at par with US and Australian) grabbing gold silvers in Olympics but not really at track and field (especially Sprinters). While they have world class facilities and resources.

I think East Asians are physical build at significantly disadvantage in track and field when compared to say Blacks in US and Africa. Also, I don't think that many Chinese are interested in doing track and field.

Bahrain I believe using naturalized African players, they also did the same in weighlifting despite only get bronze

For athletic, Thailand men sprinter getting Gold is really a surprise. I also though it will be Chinese or Japanese who can do that in Asian Games.

This bring back old memories where other South East Asian lead in 100 meter sprinter. Indonesian sprinters, for example can get Gold in men sprinter while Philippine sprinter (Lidia De Vega) take the lead in women competition.

Moreover since decades, China actively bridged the gap by sending its athletes abroad, absorbing Western training methodologies, sports science, and competitive mindsets. Whereas the track and field infrastructure remained slightly more insular for a longer period.

Modern facilities alone won't decide the overall performance, track and field events have been dominated by black athletes since day one. Many world top track and field athletes are blacks from some poorest countries in Africa and Latin America.
