Now BYD wants to break that record and hit the golden 500kmph
BYD wants to break its own record and push the Yangwang U9 Xtreme past 500 km/h (310 mph). [1, 2]

Current Record Status
    • The Record Holder: The Yangwang U9 Xtreme (built by BYD's luxury division Yangwang) hit 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph) at Germany's Papenburg test track in September 2025.
    • The Milestone: This performance surpassed the previous top-speed production record held by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. [1, 2, 3]

Next Speed Goals

    • Pushing Past 500 km/h: At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Stella Li, BYD vice president, announced the company's ambition to set an even higher bar for the record it already holds. [1]
    • Engineering Upgrades: The Yangwang U9 Xtreme utilizes a quad-motor setup producing nearly 3,000 horsepower, a 1,200-to-2,000-volt electrical architecture, and advanced thermal management to handle extreme speeds safely. [1, 2, 3, 4]
