As a political junkie, I’ve noticed a strange pattern. On several major issues where voters are clearly negative, Trump consistently takes the opposite stance. It’s hard to tell whether this comes from arrogance, ignorance, or something I might be missing, but the disconnect is real. No wonder 61 percent of Americans say the country is on the wrong track and only 32 percent believe it is headed in the right direction.
Inflation Most voters say inflation is still a major problem. Trump often dismisses those concerns, calling inflation “Democrat hoax” and insisting he already “defeated” it. The message implies voters are wrong about their own economic reality.
Economy Polling shows Americans rate the economy as poor or struggling. Trump repeatedly describes it as “the greatest economy in history” and a “golden age,” which many voters see as out of touch with their daily financial pressures.
Data Centers Across the US, voters oppose large data centers because of higher electric bills, water usage, noise, and fears about job displacement. Trump strongly supports them and has said people who oppose data centers “want to stay poor,” which dismisses voters’ concerns instead of addressing them.
Flock Cameras Most Americans are uneasy about expanded surveillance and AI tracking. Trump’s response was “I sort of like them because of law enforcement.” Once again, he sides against the majority’s privacy concerns.
Foreign Policy Voters broadly oppose Trump’s foreign policy approach, including trade wars with allies, escalation with Iran, and his handling of conflicts such as Israel and Palestine or Ukraine and Russia. Many blame these policies for higher gas and diesel prices and broader instability.
Given everything I’ve laid out, what do you think is driving Trump’s behavior?
