Altay & Turkish Main Battle Tank Programs

This is the chinese way of life. As the turkish one it seems.

The number of countries in the world capable of producing Tank Engines is so small ( 10 Countries )

It is an original, indigenous Engine and transmission , including the cylinder block, combustion chamber design, turbocharger integration and FADEC digital control units developed from scratch by Turkish engineers at BMC POWER

Metallurgy and materials Technology can not be copied
( You need to work for years )

The casting technique used for the engine block and the forging process for the crankshaft are among the world’s most closely guarded trade secrets. Even if you were to determine the precise composition of the alloy , the specific proportions of elements added to the metal in a laboratory, you still could not replicate the exact heat treatment applied to that metal, nor the specific temperatures and durations used. Without the proper technology, the engine block would crack or the crankshaft would snap under the immense pressure the moment you started the Engine

Transmission (Gearbox and Hydraulic Systems) can not be copied
The torque converters, hydraulic units, and planetary gear systems within a transmission are manufactured with tolerances measured in microns. Even with the world’s most advanced CNC machinery at your disposal, you cannot produce these gears without knowing the precise alloys and manufacturing methods required

FADEC (Full Authority Digital Engine Control) and Software can not be copied
The software and algorithms contained within this unit are essentially a black box. Even if you were to replicate the hardware, it would be impossible to copy the millions of lines of embedded software that govern how the engine reacts

If you lack the necessary metallurgy, precision casting, and software technologies, any attempt at replication will end in failure. In the BATU project, Türkiye has successfully navigated these critical stages by leveraging its own engineering infrastructure.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Turkiye does not engage in copying
Turks pays for the design or purchases the rights for licensed production

ALTAY Tank : we bought the K-2 design and developed the ALTAY Tank with another turret and some modifications

K-2 Tank : 55 tons
ALTAY Tank : 65 tons

BATU Engine and Transmission is 100% Turkish design and technologies

So it is a pure chance that BATU use the same config in "U", the same number of cylinders, same displacement, same number of turbos than the MTU Leo2 engine ???
Okay..... (lol).

it is a matter of military necessity and engineering standardization, rather than copying

The hull design of the ALTAY Tank specifically the width, height and length of the engine compartment was initially drafted based on the German MTU Engine and the RENK transmission

So , The only standard solution globally that allows the engine and transmission to fit side by side as a single, integrated unit is the "U-type configuration" architecture.

Okay..... (lol).

Also , To generate a massive output of 1,500 hp from an Engine block the size of a Tank Engine, the 12-cylinder architecture is the global standard.

Also , The engine displacements of the BATU and the MTU are not the same.

MTU Engine : 47,6 L
BATU Engine : 27,3 L

Cool story bro. lol

Guy think War is a Science fare competition where its "bad manners" to copy or something for China. All that matters is operationalizing a capability.

Regardless, its been explained to you that this isn't a copy but a drop in replacement, that doesn't require a redesign of the tank.

Not for Pakistan but me.
Joke aside, yes it can be used, as a force multiplier.

Alot of have changed in one year. Do you still believe investing in ALTAY tank will be beneficial for Pakistan ? Considering the maturity of drone warfare ?

Lets see, if not the whole tank, atleast the subsystems would be valuable.

I think Pakistan should try to get a license production deal for Turkish armored vehicles. something like the Kirpi

I see Pakistan using Toyota trucks for its army and its just not a great solution in terms of mine protection and ambush. A proper MRAP vehicle would be better.

Tanks may not make sense for Pakistan necessarily as the Unit cost and battle doctrine is a bit different. Altay was designed to be a heavy tank with lots of Armor and a high end expensive tank, whereas the Pakistani strategy so far has been using cheap tanks in mass like the soviet/chinese strategy.

Exactly. Altay maybe a No Go because of its weight, price and lack of need at Pakistans end (as we are already expanding our numbers of VT-4). But armored vehicles is a must. Should be a blend of Kirpi and Cobra 2. No need to wait for a bigger order even small orders will do if money is the problem. Atleast adding 100 armored vehicles per year is still better than adding none.

Even if they don't buy the tank(though maybe as a specialized high end unit they could field it), the subsystems for the Altay that Turkey has developed are incredibly valuable. From the APS, to the optics and digital fire control system and the unmanned auxiliary gun on top of the turret and other such things, these things can be used to upgrade Pakistani tanks, I've noticed most Pakistani tanks don't have APS, jammers, detectors and other things or even the unmanned gun up top, they are still using a manned gunner outside the tank up top, which is suicide these days.

there was other architecture possible : V8, V10, ....
But it's clear that it was the easier way to mimic the german engine that already deeply inspired south corea for it's K2 engine.

your "drop in " explanation was too short to convince me that using the same config, same number of cylinders, same global cm3, same connections to the hgear box and MBT frame is something else than a copy. But OKay, it's a drop in replacement ;) .

Now the real stake is to see the reliability of Batu engine. Not a so easy tack, because the german engine is the result of a long engine family, with a lot of refinements and improvements.
