Taiwan’s (ROC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a protest a few hours ago. In essence, it condemned Pakistan for politicizing its airspace, stating that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a sovereign and independent country and has never been subordinate to the People’s Republic of China. This is an undeniable objective fact and the status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

Michael rightly pointed out, when it comes to cross-strait issues, the Chinese mainland government targets “Taiwan independence” and even explicitly names specific pro-independence figures, rather than targeting ordinary Taiwanese people.
The clearest example is that China imports large quantities of agricultural and fishery products from Taiwan, even though most Taiwanese farmers and fishermen tend to support the pro-US, pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which is currently in power in Taiwan.
In other words, even though these ordinary Taiwanese people may vote for a pro-independence party, the Chinese mainland government still extends goodwill toward them.
In its official language and education system, the Chinese mainland government directly refers to Taiwanese people as “
compatriots.” As a result, many people from the mainland do not harbor hostility toward Taiwanese people. On the contrary, they have a favorable impression of them.
On the Taiwanese side, many Taiwanese people are also curious about the Chinese mainland, especially since the mainland has now surpassed Taiwan in many fields.
Many Taiwanese people visit mainland Chinese video platforms to see what people on the mainland are doing and what they are interested in. Although they rarely participate in discussions, whenever a video is related to Taiwan, the comment section suddenly fills with Taiwanese users, often to the surprise of mainland viewers.
The two sides then start interacting, joking with each other, asking questions, and clearing up each other’s misunderstandings. The atmosphere is actually quite friendly and lively.
The influence of the Chinese mainland on Taiwan will only continue to grow, especially in areas related to everyday life, such as film, television, entertainment, and food.
Memes that become popular on the mainland often catch on among Taiwanese people just a few days later.
After all, people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are Chinese, share the same ancestors, and have much of their history, culture, customs, and traditional festivals in common.
On a side note, I often see anti-China voices online claiming that the Chinese mainland is a paper tiger because it does not dare to use force against Taiwan.
In reality, however, the mainland government prioritizes peaceful reunification, unless Taiwan declares independence and thereby causes the country to split.
P.S.
I personally have no objection to Pakistan’s measure because I dislike Taiwan’s current pro-US, pro-independence government.....
