Microsoft Announces Major Downsizing - 60,000 Affected

Before the Mods remind us to be on the topic--which we maybe in some ways. Very interesting video about what to do given the Ai onslaught. I had already figured out a path forward for me--the 'spatial' one, which this video mentions.
To the youngens: Something to think about.

Governments really need to clamp down on AI GROWTH!!!

How quickly not just tech companies other sectors have adopted AI into their workforce… 😧

Employees pay tax, employers and employees pay Nat insurance , employees pay tax on nearly everything they buy! AI DOESN'T PAY TAX. So where is the money going to come from for gov to run the country? if we lay large proportion not just in IT Jobs but in all other sectors rest of the of the working population off. True in the past people re-skilled In the past

Were are up against dumb machines but these machines are most likely to become cleverer than us. It's the elephant in the room that nobody's talking about brother!!!
it looks you see the writing on the wall

Good observation! Add the Ukraine war to the mix. Indeed, there is widespread sinking feelings and, other than some Scandinavian countries, it seems global. Yesterday Reuters had an article which said 42% of Americans have thought of emigration. Americans!! There is global angst. Inexplicable. My theory is that the Covid pandemic changed the humanity on psychological level.

Look America is a great country to live in

the problem is people want to congregate in expensive cities like NYC or SF. Ot they want to sit in a remote town and get NYC/SF wages

For youngsters, you have to study well, be smart about career choices and suck it up to establish yourself in life

EDIT: For crying out loud, stay away from drugs and choose your partners/friends wisely

Absolutely.
As to the Reuters' Americans 42% wanting to emigrate: They may find that grass is not greener on the other side. Maybe there is not even any grass on the other side.
My point was about the angst in humanity in general. People are mentally agitated and from my personal observation, the Covid pandemic changed people mentally. That topic is worth exploring worth a few PhD dissertations.

There are always fewer well paid jobs than people who want them.

Not everyone can be successful despite what propaganda says.

people do not know what you are doing. Covid might have changed things for the bad in the short to intermediate term

Everyone wants a well paid white collar desk job that they can work remotely from home. In USA the economy is not great, inflation has been high. there are plenty of well paid jobs that are open

Well, in my case, no office job ever except maybe on occasional basis. I can afford to sit home for less than a year more and start collecting my SS and pension plus some investments.
We all need to first and foremost define our comfortable life's requirements. It often doesn't take much especially in a country like America where I hear people living off just $1400/month Social Security. People need to get out of the 'Sex and the City' and similar mindsets. Move to smaller towns, rent a little trailer, eat beans and rice. Food, fuel and utilities--even healthy food--is affordable here compared with most of the world.
Healthcare sucks--but then you could be on Medicaid.

Off topic but... The common factor I have found in people with very stressful lives, whether in poor countries like Pakistan or a rich country like America is people deciding to have kids without having enough resources to give them a happy life. I have a considerable circle of family and friends in America. Of the relatives (through the marriage), only two cousins, who are siblings, have a financially and family successful lives. Those two came from an aunt who married a well off, educated man. Top of my head, there are 14+ first cousins here. Then there are the friends and their kids and grand kids. If kids didn't screw you up then the grand kids did. And I am talking about many friends and friends. How about grandparents taking care of your grandbabies while you maybe still taking care of your own parents? Yup, I know at least one such couple.

We make our bed and should be prepared to lay in them. Trying to be some automaton and breeding and to find find someone to 'take care of you' in your old age comes with a price--all too often a steep price from what I have seen. Morale of the story is: Don't breed, don't have kids unless you have a lot of resources and would be able to give good life to them--or to yourself.

With that many jobless being created by AI, the people will lose buying power. Who will they sell their products to ?

Fair question - some questions were asked about machines when they were first introduced

this is not the first time humanity has had technological progress. Maybe the first time you are seeing it

basically you are telling me it takes committed parents to raise kids. every parent has a limited capacity (not just financial, also mental) - maybe 1 or 2 or 3 kids in most cases

essentially you are saying that USA is not a place for well poorly educated Pakistanis in the long run. Replaces Pakistanis with immigrants of any sort
