US Perspective on the Iran - Israel / US War

Yeah dude, none of this feels good whatsoever, could bbe that Trump presses the button on polling day (Tuesday) itsself!?
I was hopeful about the Qatari iniative since it was being spearheaded by Vance himself via his offer to Tehran - and the hope of a further meeting in Istanbul on the 4th. But if this drags on past the 2nd or even the 3rd... Well it then things don't look so rosy.

What a fantastic start to my morning. Not even a half a cup of coffee into it.

Well, that problem has been fixed.

Have a nice day.

Usa and Israel want complete dismantling of Iranian offensive capabilities ie nuclear energy (potential nukes), missiles, factories (production capabilities) etc, this is the major hurdle. Historically Libya under Gaddafi gave up nukes and tried to be a hero, look at what happened to him, Saddam Iraq exact same, just before Usa invasion UN inspectors were destroying Iraqi missiles. Iran has 2 real choices, either submit and become puppet like GCC and Iraq or show the world what they have been preparing for since 30 years, the western world only respects hard power. They will keep coming for Iran until the regime changes.

I'm calling bs on Russian threat. Something is going on it seems the whole world has lost its cht with governments all over the world warning us about prepping for a possible grid failure and world war and now USAF deploys in Alaskan island that hasn't been used since early 90s?

The chatter has gotten so loud that I had to talk to my girls about coming home if something happens and today my brother-in-law (older sister husband) who is a consultant for Tiberius Aerospace was telling me he's been talking to folks some from intel realm that were telling him this is real and not some test or exercise they know something and are worried. Wtf.

How many of us, even after 2 years of this stupidity, still think Trump / US is sane? I don't think anyone here thinks that USA is the way. Every country needs to focus on Europe, China, Africa, India and rest and let USA be the way it want it to be. I think all the middle East countries now also want to diversify their risk management.

stuff for 3 days for 1 person is so much, imagine storing for 1 whole week or 10 days, and specially if u got multiple family members........

And that main question: When does the 72-hr window actually start? Nobody has a date set for that......

Three days worth of provisions is not as much as you might think. Posting such a question to ChatGPT:

There is no reliable, regularly updated national measurement of exactly how many days of food the average American household keeps at home.

However, the available research gives us a useful estimate.

The best available estimates

About 7-14 days

A reasonable planning estimate for an ordinary U.S. household's food inventory.

This is an approximation, not a current nationally measured average.
There are several relevant studies:

  • 2015 New Jersey household study: Researchers inventoried food in 100 food-secure households and calculated an average of 33.16 days of calories. This is a small, non-national sample and should not be treated as the U.S. average.

    Cambridge Core

  • 2014 national preparedness survey: 96% of respondents reported having at least three days of nonperishable food.

    Cambridge Core
    +1

  • 1962 USDA survey: Approximately one-third of households estimated they could stretch their existing food for a week or less. This is historical evidence, not a current estimate.

    Agecon Search

What does the government recommend?

The USDA recommends keeping at least three days of nonperishable food available, along with three gallons of drinking water per person for three days.

Ask USDA

My Practical Assessment

I would distinguish ordinary household inventory from emergency preparedness:

Food supplyAssessment
1โ€“3 daysMinimal buffer
7 daysBasic preparedness
14 daysGood household reserve
30 daysStrong preparedness
60โ€“90 daysExtended emergency reserve

My recommendation: A 30-day food supply is a reasonable preparedness target for a household that wants to be resilient to temporary disruptions in grocery distribution, transportation, or severe weather.

One important consideration: food alone isn't sufficient. Drinking water, cooking fuel, refrigeration, and medications can become limiting factors too.

I can also calculate how much food, water, and basic supplies a family of four would need for a 30-, 60-, or 90-day emergency reserve.

The silly in me says they are likely turning the on switch to AI and they are concerned of the unknown of doing that so better safe than sorry? A possible upcoming Epic Furry deux is not the reason for all this warning.
