US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

Was this a rebuke of MAGA. Or was it a rebuke on the war in Iran and gas prices?

More former than latter, you can see this probably had nothing to do with Israel or Iran when you see the Dem rack up on average 10+ points on every seat but Michigan......

I made a little List of DT bad decisions and choices? Why it cost him
Midterms?

Trump lost Americans when he put the Middle East and Israel above America. He lost when he didn't bring down cost of living. He lost when he ignored Epstein Island.

Id love to hear from an American member on here who supported MAGA. What’s their take?

GOP lost because they don't do anything, and Trump lost because he promised too much and delivered nothing, and the majority of those reasons are because of the economy.

The economy was already bad before the war in Iran; we had been talking about that even here on how prices go up and up and up in America. Then you have the ICE thing and the Tariff, which the latter cost Americans hundreds of billions, and most of us are still waiting on a refund; that's what kills the GOP now.

Trump is always going to lose in the midterms; that's not going to change. The war in Iran basically enhanced the issue, which you can argue it had something to do with the blowout. But again, if that was the case, then El Sayed should have gotten more vote instead; he barely won compared to the other Dems who were defending their seats.

Maybe this is just a Michigan things? I don't know.

Trump is still a very powerful person: Able to VETO policies, able to tariffs, able to deport, able wage wars, able to ruthlessly deploy ICE... There maybe court challenges to his Executive Orders but he would keep the courts and the Democrats busy and come up with different plans. And very likely his loyal Republican Congressmen continue to back him on those measures in and outside of the Congress.
What does it tell you? That this ain't no 'democracy' where one man--just one man-- can overrule the will of the tens of millions people. His decision to launch the war on Iran was a personal decision--as I have said in the Iran war thread many times--but that decision has cost the world a lot.

So you know this is when you know FOX is pissed and about to sling as much mud as possible for the next 2 years to try to get the republicans back in office did they ever call MAGA people radicals or just honest Americans IMG_4338.png

The USA is not a proper democracy. I am not sure what phrase can be used to describe the setup in the USA, but democracy is not one of them. For any true democracy, if the leader suffers such a large blow out in an election for his party, the party would be demanding the immediate resignation of the leader. The UK is case in point, where there is accountability of the leader. There is none in the USA.

The very concept that a leader can become a lame duck president as a result of a so called democratic election, but still allowed to continue as a leader is the antithesis of a true democratic setup.

The American constitution has failed to create and ensure a true democratic setup.

I posted a Ken Burns' article from NY Times yesterday: Basically, there is a amassing of Executive Power to the point of abuse while the Congress has abdicated its responsibilities. It was not always like that. Ken's article is well worth reading.
So, yes, essentially you are right: It is not a 'democracy' at the top but IMO on State and more local level, works well.
