Iranian President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian die in helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan

Same reason the Supreme Leader gets his prostate cancer surgery in a state hospital. This mentality of trying to be “one” with the commoner gets too many officials killed.

That means no expensive helicopters, no expensive escorts, etc etc. and disregard for operational security and safety.

And you see the result.
It’s a noble ideal, but for safety, you can’t go so cheap there.

I didn’t refute myself, I gave a reason that Iran should have spend the money for the helicopters. I’m not sure why they didn’t take due care with their president’s safety.

If they have the money, then they can buy it surely?! So Iran being able to afford it is a very simplistic understanding, which was shot from the hip and in the dark. Iran can afford it but as other members have have highlighted, that there has to be a willingness to sell just as much as there should be a willingness to buy. Something you don't understand.

Also, why make comments on safety when no investigation has occured?!

I am sorry to hear they are no more. May Allah forgive their sins, and give them a good place in Jannah.

This is what happens when you are under sanctions. lol. You use crap equipment.

Hopefully a wiser leadership will come and support two state solution.

Those sanctions are an honour, something slaves and hypocrites just can't fathom. So Iran deserved it because they don't recognise Israel? Amazing how incidents like these unmask the hypocrites in our midst.

Not saying its the case, but maybe remotely possible.

The general state of the Iranian aviation industry as publicly reported over the years, make it highly likely maintenance some role. But sure, let’s wait for the investigation report. But if you were responsibly for the helicopters, today, perhaps you would be reviewing safety procedures with pilots and maintenance crew. A ground of the fleet for a short while, out of precaution, wouldn’t be unusual.

Iran might not have been able to buy the best and most modern Russian helicopters but could have redirected some of its current fleet of Mi-17, and been better able to surreptitiously been able to buy spares with little fanfare or notice. The Iran navy operates 45 Mi-17 alone.

Between 1979 and 2023, Iran witnessed 253 plane crashes that claimed 3,335 lives, according to the Geneva-based Bureau of Aircraft Accident Archives (B3A).
The frequent need for repairs has raised plane ticket prices in Iran, and has also placed economic strain on smaller aircraft companies. Aircraft also can not be sent abroad for repair and have to be repaired locally, with limited expert manpower, Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh, the head of Iran’s aviation agency, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran (CAO), told Fars news agency in 2022.

The fact that they let the leader get in a helicopter to fly in bad weather is all we need to know about the situation..
