Iranian President Raisi and Foreign Minister Abdollahian die in helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan

The more I think about the tragic event, the more I believe that this wasn't just a regular accident. Something definitely doesn't add up. I think this was a targeted assassination. Let's wait and see what the joint Russian/Iranian investigation reveals.
I meant Why TF, would you place such high level individuals in an old rust bucket when more reliable Russian helicopters were available. Out of the 3 helicopters it was the Presidents that went down. Why? There are many questions to be answered.
That decision is internal.

Aircrafts assigned for VIP transport duties are, or should be, always isolated from the rest of the fleet, inspected by the unit's best maintainers, certified by the squadron's CO, and guarded. So, if that helo was assigned to fly the president, who made that decision?

I don’t believe it matters. It was a severe security breakdown. It’s possibly systemic. Can’t point to a person, unit, or organization.

Raisi's chief of staff describes downed helicopter's final moments

During a 21 May interview on the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN), the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's Chief of Staff Gholam Hossein Esmaili narrates what he witnessed in the moments before the helicopter incident that took the lives of Iran's president, his Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and seven of their companions.

Mr. Esmaili was traveling in the three-helicopter convoy, and was in one of the two choppers that reached their destination safely.

Esmaili: After our noon prayers, we departed toward the direction of Tabriz. The weather was clear, there was no weather condition to be worried about. After half an hour being in the air, prior to reaching the Sungun copper mine, there was a small patch of clouds.

Interviewer: So there was no fog?

Esmaili: Not at all. There was fog on the ground, but not in up the air where we were advancing with the helicopters. However in one small compacted area, there was a small patch of clouds above a cliff. In terms of height, this cloud was on the same height as our flight’s height.

It was there when the now-martyred helicopter pilot, who was also the commander of the fleet, that told the rest of the pilots to ascend above the clouds. We were the 3rd pilot, behind the president’s helicopter. We came above the clouds, we advanced for approximately 30 seconds. Our pilot suddenly realised that the main helicopter carrying the president is missing.

Interviewer: You didn’t see the helicopter anymore after ascending?

Esmaili: Yes exactly, after ascending above the clouds, we didn’t see the main helicopter. The ascension itself didn’t feel difficult or hard. Sometimes, when we use the plane we feel turbulence but we didn’t feel anything at all inside the helicopter this time, when ascending. And after we ascended there were no other clouds.

Interviewer: So beyond this, there were no weather forecasts mentioning any disturbances in the weather to make it unsafe?

Esmaili: No there wasn’t any. Shortly after, we were able to see beneath us and there were no clouds anymore and we had reached the area of the copper mine. We realised however that our pilot is making an U-turn suddenly so I asked him why? He said that one of our helicopters is missing. We estimate that they made an emergency landing, because we also have no radio contact with it anymore. So I asked him when was the last time contact was made? The pilot answered, “A minute and 30 seconds ago, when the pilot told us to ascend above the clouds.”

Our pilot circled around the area a couple of times, but the area with the cloud patch was also invisible to us and it was too risky to enter that area. We failed several times to make any radio contact. We were forced to make a landing after 30 seconds at the Sungun copper mine to investigate.

During the flight, we had continuous cell phone calls with the passengers, including the bodyguard, Mr. Abdollahian, the governor of East-Azerbaijan and the Friday imam of Tabriz. However we tried calling all of them without luck.

After some tries, calling the cellphone of the captain accompanying the president, someone picked the phone. It was Ayatollah Hashem, the friday imam of Tabriz. He told us that I’m not feeling well. He didn’t tell us anything special. I asked him what exactly has happened? He told us that he didn’t know what has happened, when asked on his whereabouts, he said that he didn’t know. He only described what he could see, described to us what he saw, e.g. surrounded by trees. I asked him about the condition of the others, the Ayatollah replied that he’s alone and couldn’t see anyone else and he’s alone.

interesting details about the flight
So the Imam initially survived the crash? That would've been a miracle considering force of the crash. So tragic.

there is no shortage of Pakistanis who have inflated egos and views of themselves its part of the culture

keep chest thumping no one will bat a eye lid at Pakistan is it even on a list of nations who is relevant ?

Hezbollah gets more mention in International media in 1 day than Pakistan gets in a full year

as a Sunni Pakistani I am totally ashamed and embarrassed at how small Shia groups have hit Israel in the last 9 months while Pakistan keeps begging for mercy and aid
Don’t be ashamed. We certainly don’t look down on you. You’re our brothers and sisters. To each their own. At least you are aware which puts you way up there in awareness percentile.

BTW, it’s a justice thing as much as it’s a Shi’a or Sunni one. Your feelings are driven by a shared sense of justice rather than any particular religion or faith.

I agree. The chopper was old. But it was not aged. Not relevant to crash. Again pointing to security breakdown.

Over the past 2 weeks:

May 7th: Assassination attempt on Saudi Crown Prince. Although it was denied, whoever reported on twitter and some online articles.

May 13th: Turkish President Erdogan holds emergency meeting following a warning of possible military coupe.

May 15th: Assassination attempt on Slovak PM Robert Fico. He gets shot however he survives.

May 16th: Citizen arrested for threatening to assassinate Serbian President Vucic.

May 19th: Saudi Arabia's King Salman hospitalized for 2nd time in 4 weeks.

May 19th: Helicopter crash involving Iranian President and foreign minister.

Reminds of assassination attempts and eventual assassination of Austrian heir Franz Ferdinand that finally triggered WW1!

It seems plotters are plotting regime changes which can lead to another war, strong chances of Israeli involvement in above incidents.

Hundredth’s time , why is Iran still using US-made helicopters for transportation? Second, if any aviation parts are required for replacement or maintenance, they are only available through the US material requisition channel. How is this workable for Iran for security reasons? This is a big question! Additionally, going forward there should be a black box recorder fitted in all their VIP’s helicopter fleet ASAP that can determine in future incidents the cause of crashes. If there is a black box can help in ways . All officers and personnel at the scene are liable for investigation.…..in this crash!

I have the impression that the crash was super quick. Did the pilots have time to report anything? There are a few things wrong with this accident. Sabotage? It looks a lot like that. To be continued. If there's a special event to trigger a big war, this crash is the perfect trigger for it.

Possible crash causes ? Weight of those on board? Path.Altitude. Performance. Down steam air. Etc etc
the helicopter had 9 on board it was designed for 15 with equipment
path was correct , the altitude probably not , it was bad weather and in the bad weather atmospheric pressure suddenly fall and in that situation altimeter show higher altitude. so i believe they were flying lower than what they taught they were flying.
performance , the helicopter was perfectly in it performance parameter and was able to fly higher as two other helicopter show that.
here one thing raise question for me , in television when they described the flight they said they entered the cloud and for reduced visibility they decided to raise altitude and when they went over cloud they saw one helicopter is missing , i believe the mistake was entering the clouds and deciding to raise altitude instead of raising it before entering it and virtually become blind

the helicopter had 9 on board

BUT There are 8 coffins
where is one more ? Is the 9th person alive?

or is he hiding because he is an intelligence officer? or some what ?

9 maybe ones family decided to bury him in their home town not mashhad
or maybe at first they announced 9 people and later reduced it to 8
at first they announced to security personnel , later they said only head of his security detail was in the helicopter
