Barmanou is the Khowar word for “Forrest man”. Not many in Pakistan let alone outside Pakistan know that our country has its very own Big Foot legend.
In Allai valley and almost all of Chitral the legend of 'Barmanu' or the 'Bigfoot' of the mountains often sighted.
The story of Barmanu is relates to the legend of 'Beauty and the Beast'.
According to Chitrali oral tradition, Barmanu loves beautiful women!
The legend goes that high in the mountains there lives a wild creature that is half-man and half-ape.
The locals of Chitral refer to this being as Barmanu in their local dialect. This term is likely derived from the term Ban-Manus in Sanskrit, meaning 'Man of the Forest'.
There have been occasional sightings of the mysterious beast and many including a Dept of Forrest officer Ghulam Fareed who had claimed to have been stalked and chased by a mysterious creature in the Allai mountains in 2004.
If you travel to Chitral it is said that on cold and long wintry nights you can hear the distinct scream of the Barmanou.
Some chalk this off as being a sort of Chilawa (shape shifter demon) but locals are adamant that the entity is not a demonic or noncorporeal entity but rather a living breathing creature that is said to smell terrible like a strong musky goat and is over 10 feet tall with hair all over its overly muscular physique.

The most notable researcher on Barmanou or Pakistan’s Bigfoot was a Spanish Crypto-Zoologist by the name of Jordi Magraner who between 1987 and 2002 spent 15 years in Chitral and interviewed many locals and drew the first artist impression based on accounts from local eye witnesses:
Magraner Riding a horse dressed in shalwar Kameez. Sadly Magraner was found murdered in his home in Chitral in 2002. His servant boy and guide was arrested and admitted to the crime saying he was ordered by local militants to murder Margranger due to his close friendship with Ahmad Shah Masood.
