Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

But is it just students out on the streets or is the rest of society joining in en masse?

Where have you been? Everyone is out. Hasina is about to be out.

Students Movement Against Discrimination on Saturday demanded the resignation of the ruling Awami League government for ‘ordering indiscriminate killing of citizens of Bangladesh’.

The platform also called for the formation of an acceptable and inclusive national government.

In a statement, issued on Saturday, the platform for government job quota reform movement, said that women, children, students, teachers and workers were not spared during the massacre and the government did not bring to book those responsible for the killings, but, rather arrested and tortured students and citizens indiscriminately.

‘As, the government’s law enforcement agencies carried out the killings using lethal firearms and, as, the vast majority of people, including students, teachers, workers and labourers feel that impartial trial and investigation is not possible under this government, reads the statement, which adds, ‘Therefore, we announce a one-point demand for the resignation of the current dictatorial government. At the same time, we demand the formation of an acceptable and inclusive national government under the leadership of a person acceptable to all.’

Students Movement Against Discrimination organised a rally at Central Shaheed Minar on Dhaka University campus in the afternoon where thousands of people from all walks of life called for the resignation of prime minister Sheikh Hasina-led government.

The crowds are mainly of student age and they have only just called for others to join them. Let's wait and see if this happens.

10s of thousands of student demonstrators on the streets of Dhaka is not going to be enough.

We still have seen no evidence of massive demonstrations from across society that would threaten the AL.

You are completely detached from reality I am sorry to say.

Teachers, lawyers, artists, musicians en masse have joined up yesterday. These are the group who had historically been extremely pro BAL, but even they have chosen to switch their position.

Retired army officers did a press conference and have rallied in Mohakhali DOHS yesterday.

Everything is available in social media. Whether you chose to believe it or not is up to you.

You're too much disconnected with Bangladesh. It would be better if you stop commenting about everything related to Bangladesh.

I will post English version when it comes out and if internet still works here... 😂

Journalist Zulkarnain Sami reported a summary of conversation between army chief and army officers yesterday.

It is in Bangla. But a very brief summary is - COAS said army will not fire at civilians anymore after being questioned by several army officers on the legitimacy of army deployment in the current situation.

Also - an officer made a prayer citing Quran on the punishment for oppressors, the entire gathering of army officers shouted out loud Ameen in unison. If you know then you know how significant this is to understand the mindset of the mid level army officers.

Artists and musicians are on the street now supporting the students. This is a critical point because these group of people have historically always been pro BAL, but them switching their position indicate the tide has turned.

Also - through these people's participation, BAL can no longer hold on to their false assertion that this is done by Jamaat Shibir to spread terror. Their participation once again proves Hasina as a liar that she is.
