Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

From my understanding, the current Army Chief is a relative of Hasina, and he stood by and sided with the people.

Yes, but He did a flip because of intense pressure from army, but gave her a safe exit to India. Or else people would have killed her today.

Sheikh Hasina Resigned?

Yes, it looks like this is the end of an era.

She was ultimately to blame for the massive bloodbath.

She should have met the reasonable demands of the protestors immediately and also lost the support of China.

BA would not support her anymore when she could not longer carry out her careful balancing act between India and China. Stupidly she tilted too much towards India when it is against BD national interests.

All credit to BA for showing they were true patriots and not willing to kill BD'shis to keep any leader in place.

Let us hope that all sections of BD society come together to build a secure and prosperous future for BD.

"
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina departed from Bangabhaban at around 2:30pm on Monday on a military helicopter, accompanied by her younger sister, Sheikh Rehana for a "safer place."

Meanwhile, according to sources, they were heading to West Bengal, India.

On the other hand, AFP reported that Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana had reached a safe location.

Sheikh Hasina intended to record a speech before her departure but did not get the opportunity to do so."

Bangladesh have done what Pakistan awaam have been unable to trigger. The pressure was intense - the losses severe - the outcome achieved within days.
Bangladesh needs immediate stability - hoping leadership is in the sideline waiting to steady the ship......

* Protesters have stormed into Ganabhaban.

* CoAS to give speech for the nation.

* Student Conveners are asking people to assemble at Shahbagh to prepapare for the next activities.

Looks like Hasina listened to my plea the other day.

We need the military to run government for 18 months to lock up the main mafia ring leaders.

Both AL and BNP must be banned.

No more BAL or BNP.

We need PR.

Like I already said, Hasina never agreed with it but needed to put on a “show” for the AL base.

Problem here is that she did not have enough control of the armed goons and hence why so many have died.

Supreme Court has already given her cover by pretty much abolishing the “freedom fighter” quota system.

BD is now going back to calm and apart from prosecution of a few of those who gave orders to fire rashly life will go on.

This incident is not at all threatening to Hasina’s rule as there is no mass civil society revolt happening.
@UKBengali you read this incorrectly bro!

BAL just took the piss!

That is the No. 1 unknown.

BD people tolerated Hasina for so long as she provided that all important stability and till recently economic growth.

There is no way she would have lasted this long if a majority of BD'shis were hostile to her.

Well we can only hope that sensible leaders emerge that can work together for the betterment of all BD'shis.

So he's a smart Army Chief who went with the tide rather than against it and is not a one-track-minded idiot.

Army chief confirmed to form interim govt. will be sending the details later on who becomes the advisors after meeting with the president.

In the discussion with army chief - members from BNP, Jamaat e Islam Amir, Jatiya Party, Zonaid Saki, Charmonai pir from Hefazot and Dr Nazrul along with other social intellectuals. No BAL politician was included.

Army chief asked students and people to go back home.

He was rational - understood the pulse of the people unlike BAL. Although he got promoted as a product of nepotism, but he has salvaged army's reputation.

Well things can change wildly in situations like this.

I got this wrong I can admit.

Hasina just acted out of character all of a sudden and lost her political acumen, but it was not just the quota issue but her losing China as well, which meant the BA would no longer support her.

She did not carry on her previous careful balancing act between India-China.

I don't think it was just him but he probably knew that BA soldiers would not fire on their own brothers and sisters.

BA itself has always been a professional organisation.
