Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was flown to India in a military helicopter on Monday as hundreds of thousands of protesters demanded she resign amid a deadly anti-government stir, news agency Reuters reported citing local sources.

Thousands of protesters reportedly flooded into the Prime Minister's official residence in Dhaka after her departure, Bangladeshi daily Prothom Alo reported. Speculations are rife that Sheikh Hasina has resigned as PM.

I never said it was just him. It's primarily the soldiers and mid level officers who challenged him in the country wide officers meeting day before yesterday. To his credit, he understood what his troops wanted unlike Hasina, who failed to understand people's grievances for the last 15 years.

I checked Bangladesh news. The Army Chief has already called intellectuals, a Dhaka University Law Professor, and other parties to the Army HQ. I would say moving in the right direction could create a good caretaker government for now.

I still stand by my hypothesis that this ouster was engineered by Bangladeshi elites, with full backing of BD Army.

China knew Hasina was not gonna sit for long, thus gave her a cold shoulder in Beijing.

BA is not an organisation that is interested in ruling the country.

It will now be the key player in trying to move the country forward and will look to set up at least a transitional government as soon as possible.

As @BananaRepublic has said the best political system for BD is one of PR as a democracy. The old 2-party yo-yo show was not moving BD forward at all.

We will have to see how this plays out as this is all unknown and BD history with democracy is one of political instability, but this is 2024 and not 2004 with a richer and more educated population now.
