Ousted Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina made a request to come to India "at very short notice", the Indian foreign minister told parliament.

Ms Hasina fled from Bangladesh to India on Monday evening after a political crisis toppled her government.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar did not mention how long she would stay in the country or what her next steps would be.

In his first official comments since the crisis peaked in Bangladesh, he said India had been in regular contact with authorities in Dhaka over the past 24 hours.

Ms Hasina resigned on Monday after weeks of deadly anti-government protests. The country's army chief has promised that an interim government will be formed and new elections will be announced.

India shares a 4,096km (2,545 miles)-border with Bangladesh and has close economic and cultural ties with the country. There are worries that prolonged tensions in Bangladesh could spill over into India, which is seen as having supported Ms Hasina through her 15-year-long tenure despite her clamping down on dissent and jailing opposition leaders.

On Monday, India deployed additional troops along its border with Bangladesh.

Could Bangladesh become a trade partner of Pakistan now?

BD will face tons of problems if a patriotic and nationalist Muslim government gets formed after election. The most prominent one will be security issues - domestic and international. Getting too much help from China is problematic for the Western backing is dead necessary for her survival. By putting Prof Yunus on the stage the West has given a clear signal to "all it may concern". Procuring cost effective military gadgets from Pakistan would have been the ideal case. But, it'd upset Bharat too much given the free lunches she's been getting from BD for such a long time that she's now taken it as a right, not a privilege. Even for other commercial products, it's not that easy. Having a 4K km border with Bharat is no fun....

Major General Ziaul Ahasan was apprehended in the Dhaka airport. He was on a emirates flight.

This individual was head of RAB and notorious for abduction, torture and extrajudicial killing. Hasina loyalist.
He was sacked from army yesterday.

To be fair I found her to be the best leader in Bangladesh but unfortunately the corrupt in her party lead to her downfall. She should have taken strict action against them, made reforms and made sure merit is followed instead of 1971 war veterans and families given special treatments.

As per my understanding, her administration scraped the reservation in 2018. But the regional courts reinstated the reservation. Therefore, the gov. has raised this matter in Bangladesh's apex court.

If what I heard on the news is true, then I don't understand why her administration is held responsible for the reservation.
