Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

Sadly, this on-line media channel is representative of a formerly very well-respected journalist of independent views, who, about a year ago, very possibly under pressure of some sort familiar to all observers of the Indian establishment's bullying of media, started toeing the line.

Not having read the article, my surmise is that he is/ they are dutifully toeing the 'party' line, both metaphorically and literally.

Regarding your own comment - the BNP winning a sweeping victory is not necessarily a good thing.

There had been hopes, belied and betrayed, that the BAL would display its political heritage and take a secular, democratic line. Those hopes, both ending in 1975, and in 2024, were betrayed, by those in whom so much trust and faith had been reposed.

The BNP, however, lacked in the past even a remote connection to any kind of democratic policy or programmes. There may have been a miracle, and doubters (like me) may get vastly surprised. I will be happy to be proved wrong, and to have the BNP give Bangladesh a liberal, secular and wholly accountable democratic administration. I am resigned to remaining unhappy.
Anyone who remotely believe that Bangladesh's polity will have any kind of stability anytime soon is fooling himself. Wait and watch, very much likely Bangladesh will get its own Taliban.

I mean, you do realize for all of its faults BNP never tried to do what Hasisna did? Basically steal election when in power. It is the BAL who only won 1 election fairly and squarly after the formation of Bangladesh. (1996) And then both Mujeeb and his daughter gone out to make brutal regimes.

BD will have much less interference from India and Hindutva. That is a given. We fully understand your pain. This is essentially Afghanistan 2.0 for you guys.

You guys still haven't answered the question. Did the ISI orchestrate this change or not? We just ask for a simple yes or no.

No, I get your point, and have to correct my unconscious bias against the BNP and for the BAL. It will take time, but I do understand that the oppression that prevailed has deeply hurt many loyal Bangladeshis.

It will take time. I ask Bangladeshi brothers to be tolerant as I, and many other liberal, democratic Indians, re-orient ourselves.

Raw materials? what kind of raw materials? For what? Its not really that Bangladesh is some kind of Japan or South Korea with massive manufacturing hub.

Their biggest raw material import is cotton which sadly Indonesia doesn't to produce. The biggest exporters are US, China and India out of which most cost effective is India.

For whatever little manufacturing they do in white appliances, its not as if they are limited by metal or something that Indonesia produces. Its mostly capital.

Another thing they need is energy (at least till their nuclear power plant comes online), which is again not something that Indonesia can supply. For that too at least for now, they depend upon India.
Coal, oil, gas for their energy needs, wood, palm derivates for processing industries, metals for infrastructure and industry, that is basic stuff, in future if relations become closer they can sophisticate and enhance layers of cooperation.
India unfortunately is not trust worthy and to greedy for fruitfull economic cooperation with Bangladesh and luckily for them can not disturb their decisions regarding strategic economic partnership.

Surely that is a given, for relations between two sovereign nations? Aberrations, and mistakes, and the occasional transient arrogance should not cast a permanent shadow over mutually respectful relations. There is no other sort that is worth maintaining.

By my limited insight and way how lot of indians behave online, i am not surprised why any of your neighbours want to have as much as possible less connections, because logical conclusion that follow is that is somehow related with state policy and societal norms.
In somewhat ideal conditions of mutual respect and more formalized ties emulated like EU whole indian subcontinent could have be world cultural and economic superpower at least.

Islam is all against statues for a reason! Erecting them means they'll be broken down one day.....
Unfortunately this thing plagued Pakistan also (along with other many sinful things).
All sorts of statues should be vandalised in Pakistan no matter whom they belong.

There is informal war going on between Pakistani (Muslim) and Indian (Hindu) ideology, within subcontinent post Mughal Empire. The 71 victory is neutralized today when Bengali rejects / destructs Mahatma of Bengali Nationalism Sheikh Mujib ur Rehman statue and chased away his off springs who rejects Pakistani Muslim ideology to begins with. There is simply no peace in subcontinent until we subdue all india once again.

There is no such thing as subjugation in modern era, it transformed itself in economic prosperity, security and social advancement as form of superiority.
