Maldives sacks multiple ministers to pacify India

Maldves gets 20% tourists from India, 20% from Russia and 18% from China. UK has 17% and remaining are 25%. Russia, China tourists are not ones who splurge like the westerners as their currency exchange rate is not high and their countries tend to have cheaper goods and services than what they get in Maldives. So, losing 20% revenues will be a massive loss. Moreover if Lakshadweep is developed Russian and some of the western tourists will also come there instead of Maldives as they can access many more tourist locations in India in addition to islands with the single Indian VISA.

Maldives has 4-5lakh population. It is not a single piece of land but a series of islands with no road connectivity. It does not have any manufacturing or agriculture. Even electricity generation is done on Diesel generators (extremely expensive). There is nothing Maldives can do about getting goods and medical services, No other country nearby has even remotely comparable prices. Cost of living will simply double or get even worse without supplies from India.

The remaining come from Germany and the US i.e. developed nations with spending power. How many Chinese tourists have you come across? I've come across a fair few and they do spend and have had a large middle class tourism sector for many years before India did.
You keep on mentioning Western tourists, they haven't heard of the place, and the Russians also have plenty of choice. Let's see when it happens.
Agreed and the same point about their lack of economic diversification has been raised, but with nations like China (I know they're not near by willing to pour in resources, combine that with increasing western tourism attention, they can better themselves. But yes it can be painful for them losing Indian tourism revenue, but not a wipeout.

Check out how long it took the Maldives to get where they are today.
Are you comparing resources available to India and Maldives? Come on Joe , in hating Modi you are actually started doubting Indian capabilities.

What is the difference in the economy and spending power of India and Maldives? For India, developing Lakshadweep will be like developing a small township. India has the manpower, funds, industries to rapidly develop Lakshadweep, very similar to how Varanasi, Ayodhya was suddenly rejuvenated or how NE infrastructure is being built. Moreover, many islands of Lakshadweep ae uninhabited, making it more convenient to develop them rapidly without any concerns for disruption of normal life. Considering the foreign policy implications, and potential to generate long term revenues, India has all the incentives to go for it at a break neck speed

Karnataka is the answer to the Maldives, if we needed an answer to the Maldives, but a dull and uneducated idiot - nobody we know - might come to the wrong conclusions. Such a hypothetical, purely imagined character might object to Karnataka having booted out a most objectionable bunch of idiots out, and might not want that standing in front. Might want to leverage the existing very high recall of God's own country to push an archipelago within swimming distance (I'm joking) of the Kerala coastline.
We will let congressi Siddhu lead Karnataka government to develop those obviously if they money left to do after taking their hafta vasooli .

I know Indian capabilities from 35 years of work in steel and software services.
I know Indian capabilities from teaching multiple batches of MBA students and helping them get placed.
I know Indian capabilities from representing India to the UAE for defence cooperation.

Who are you? What are your credentials?

Na it is validated after Modi winning elections.

Kuch bhi Karo Joepaaji, par aayega to Modi hi 😭
Sure, that is nothing I regret at the level of letting a democracy elect whoever it wants.

That's what we are discussing in this thread, although you lost sight of it when Modi distracted your attention.

If Modi says it did, it is people like you who would go around beating utensils proclaiming this.
Modi said nothing, Modi did nothing. Modi just tweeted about his visit to Lakshadweep and everyone including the Chinese, the Maldives, the ultra leftists, the Islamist got their panties in a twist.

The point is that it is none of India's business whom the Maldives decides to make its leader. It never was, it never will be. Why people are raving and ranting about the independent political decisions of an independent nation is difficult to understand. Why some Indians are more royalist than the King is even more difficult to understand. The Maldives is not, after all, the 27th state of the Union of India. Even if it were, we would be well-advised not to interfere. Look at Manipur, look at Nagaland, look, above all else, at Kashmir.
Come on Joe!

Why is it that everyone and their grandmother get to make their business telling Indians about who not to elect but moment Indians make a peep they are reminded of sovereignty and what not?

How many articles Al-Jazeera has posted about Modi and why he should not be Indian prime minister?
Remember, divider in chief front page of Times?
How come Canada and its politicians get to tell India what it should be doing with its farm laws?
Yes! Farm Laws! Did Indian politicans make a single peep about Canada's own crushing of covid protests?

Why is that when it comes to India, every one gets a free pass to pontificate but Indians are reminded not to be "royalist"?

No of course, but it's about interests as well.
Remember it is all about cost and all India is doing is making Maldives realize cost of making enemy out of India. It is not short term process as China will support them for few years but we will see for how long.

West also does not want China in Maldives so not sure why you keep relying on west support.

Thank you.

That is precisely what will emerge, a filthy dirty ill-planned north Indian township. I already warned someone - on this thread - what to expect. Go back and take a look. That is ALL the monkeys who will be put on to it will achieve.

Then why can't you let democratically elected Modi go. He never really tweets for Maldives or against Maldives, does he?
