November saw the opening of sales for the Chinese equivalent of the Jetta VA3 in Russia, a vehicle produced in Volkswagen’s Chinese facility. This development is a product of the joint venture between FAW and Volkswagen in China. As per the joint press release by ‘AvtoDom’ and ‘AutoSpecCenter,’ FAW acquired the Volkswagen Jetta model but retained its original name, leveraging its established reputation in the European market.

FAW’s Volkswagen Jetta VA3: A Chinese Version with European Pedigree​

The Jetta VA3 bears a striking resemblance to the first generation of the Volkswagen Polo. This Chinese-version Volkswagen, now available to Russians, is priced at a starting rate of 1.8 million rubles. The vehicle’s platform is identical to the Skoda Rapid as well as the previous generation Volkswagen Polo. The car boasts a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing 112 horsepower, and is available with either a manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission from Aisin.

Struggles of the Russian Automobile Market​

In mid-November, it was reported that Russian dealers were grappling with the challenge of offloading the remaining stock from brands that had exited the country. As of November 13th, Russians had the option of purchasing one of the 14 Volkswagen models available in the market.

IXEN Motors Rus has announced plans to start production of Forthing T5 EVO crossovers. The production of this model will begin in January 2024 at the Kaliningrad plant, and the cars of Russian assembly should go on sale in March, the press service of the company reports.
As noted, local assembly will optimise logistics and better adapt the T5 EVO crossovers to the Russian climate. In particular, the maximum configuration of this model will receive additional winter options in the form of heated steering wheel and windscreen. They will complement heated exterior mirrors and front seats. At the moment, the Chinese-built Forthing T5 EVO is available in dealer centres of IXEN Motors Rus in four configurations at a price from 3 million 080 thousand rubles to 3 million 390 thousand rubles. The exact dimensions of the model are 4565 x 1860 x 2715 mm with a wheelbase of 2715 mm.
The appearance of the crossover is distinguished by black wheel discs, a large grille and thin daytime running lights. The interior of the Forthing T5 EVO gets a single cluster of two touchscreens: the instrument panel and the touchscreen centre screen. Under the bonnet of the Forthing T5 EVO is a 197bhp 1.5-litre turbo engine that works in conjunction with a 7-speed robot from global manufacturer Magna. The crossover accelerates to 100 km/h in 9.5 sec. Its fuel consumption is 6.6 litres / 100 km in the mixed cycle.

In November 2023, Maxim Sokolov, President of AVTOVAZ, said that he expects the full-scale launch of LADA St. Petersburg (the former production site of the Japanese concern Nissan, which left Russia) in 2024. Recall that in the summer there began assembly of a mid-size crossover LADA X-cross 5, which is a redesigned version of the Chinese FAW Bestune T77.
However, it is difficult to call this production a mass production yet, just over 100 such cars were assembled at the beginning of November. Meanwhile, AVTOVAZ has still found opportunities to launch the St. Petersburg site early. At the end of December 2023, Chinese crossovers Chery Tiggo 7 PRO were launched on the assembly line. Telegram channel "Autopotok", which reported about it, noticed that the car kits coming from China are almost finished cars, on which the front subframe with pre-installed engine and suspension, rear subframe with suspension and wheels are installed in St. Petersburg.
A special attention should be paid to the fact that the cars come off the assembly line without Chery nameplates, which means that they can get the LADA emblem, as it used to be with the FAW Bestune T77 / LADA X-cross 5.

Techno differs from other kits by dynamic turn indicators in taillights, panoramic roof with a sunroof, black 18-inch alloy wheels, electric boot door, atmospheric interior lighting, horizontal LED strip on the bonnet between the headlights, welcome light animation, light logo Moskvich in the front doors, safety curtains, front seat belts with pretensioners, blind spot monitoring system (BSD), cross collision warning when reversing (CTA), rear collision warning (RCW), danger warning when opening doors (DOW), electric locking of rear doors against opening by children, 8 speakers and 12 V socket in the boot.
Recall, the new Moskvich 6 liftback went on sale in mid-October 2023, becoming the third model in the domestic brand's line-up (after the 3 and 3e crossovers).

OMODA brand has announced important structural changes within the company. Viktor Nashchansky has left the position of OMODA and JAECOO brand director at his own request. Dmitry Maksimov has been appointed to the position of OMODA brand director, while Vladimir Stoyakin has taken the position of JAECOO brand director, according to the press service of Chery Automobiles Rus.
Dmitry Maximov worked at Volkswagen Group Rus from 2008 to 2023, where he rose from regional manager to sales director. For the last five years he has been Director of Sales and Development, overseeing the markets of Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. At Volkswagen Group Rus, Dmitry Maximov was responsible for the development and implementation of projects aimed at increasing corporate sales. Vladimir Stoyakin is also closely connected with the world of car business: from 2008 to 2011 he worked as Managing Director at Yug-Avto dealership holding, from 2011 to 2012 he worked as Project Manager at Volkswagen Group Rus, and from 2015 to 2022 he held the position of Head of Transformation and Innovation Office at Severstal.
Vladimir Stoyakin has been working at Chery Automobiles Rus since August 2023 as JAECOO Sales Director, and from 1 November he was appointed JAECOO Brand Director.

KAMAZ resumed work today after the all-Russian New Year holidays, which took place from December 30th, 2023 to January 8th, 2024. During the remaining working days of January, the company plans to produce more than 3.3 thousand trucks, the KAMAZ press service reports. As it is noted, despite all the difficulties, the main tasks set for KAMAZ divisions for 2023 have been fulfilled. Last year, the company continued production of trucks of the new model range.
For example, in February 2023, KAMAZ began production of KAMAZ-54901 long-haul tractors with improved performance on a new component base that does not depend on supplies from unfriendly countries. According to production statistics, production of the flagship KAMAZ-54901 tractors continues to gain momentum. At the same time, the company's product portfolio is expanding. For example, the line of medium-tonnage vehicles, initially consisting of the Compass 9 and Compass 12 models, was supplemented in 2023 with a new product - the Compass 5 vehicle.
In addition, in 2023, new products were presented in the line of passenger vehicles - a medium class bus KAMAZ-4290, an extra large class bus KAMAZ-6299 ("accordion"), a city bus KAMAZ VEGA, a low-floor trolleybus KAMAZ-62825, and an electric bus with night charging KAMAZ-6282 ONC. In 2024, modernisation of Kamaz production facilities, development of the K5 truck line and the passenger vehicle model range will continue. Work is also planned on P6 engines, development of the Compass line of vehicles and other projects.
