I think Israelis had given up on Gaza's total control and are rushing into expanding the war by attacking Lebanon. Several calculations are play: More than one analyst has said after a few weeks, the weather will make it harder to do air-strikes in the Middle East. Then there is the American elections: Both political parties are fighting to win in a very tight race where every morsel, every person, every dollar counts. And AIPAC has the most money. A lot of the ongoing conflict is a war of nerves and words. Of resilience and 'will power'. More than about the number of rockets and bombers. Both sides are in a mortal combat for survival--and let there be no mistake: Israel's very survival depends upon the sense of invincibility and of prosperity that it enjoyed till October 7, 2023. But also Hezbollah knows that there is no going back--even if Hezbollah had not attacked on October 8, 2023, it knew Israel would eventually go after it after taming Gaza.

So the open conflict we are witnessing between Israel and Hebzollah was inevitable but with one possible brake: The Americans. Fortunately, the Americans did not want, don't want a regional war. But unfortunately, Americans are under AIPAC occupation and unable to control the American power to put sense into Netanyahu's brain, especially in an election year. Netanyahu knows that well. He didn't come to Washington just to get the standing ovations: He came to get the assurance that he would at least not be stopped supplies from America. So the supplies continue. The million dollar question: Will the Americans support the expanding of the war which is eminently against America's own interests?? From the language of the Biden administration, they would support Israel to 'defend itself'. But that language falls short of expanding the war, I think.
