JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

1. That model was made by the same skillset and knowledge that creates those put onto lowly small town Pakistan roundabouts and is nowhere near an authentic representation.

2. H4 was never BVRAAM - H2 and H4 were designations for Denel Raptor series in service with PAF.

3. Could be mounted - never will be because aircraft is severely G restricted in that configuration. An incorrect load by a fairly lightweight sensor put by the PAF onto the Jf-17(without consulting Chengdu design team) to undertake more accurate simulator development led to the first airframe loss via the wings ripped off.

4. R- Darter was never received post early 2000s - Integration tests were planned with ROSE-I mirages but never applied due to both pressure on Denel and lack of funds. PAF preferred going with F-16 - AMRAAM combo and JF-17 SD-10 combo. This was decided by 2007-8. 2010 was already too late. The PAF has integrated for emergency needs the SD-10 on Mirage-III ROSE-Is

Lastly - you can put all these questions in the main Jf-17 thread -no need to create a new one.
This is a model image of PAF JF17 PFX. You can very clearly see that it has a different missile mounted on the wingtip than the PL5 close-range combat missile, it is longer, larger, and has the same fairing as the ARH BVRAAM. This is most likely a BVR missile. According to a 2004 news report, the PAF has obtained and test-fired a homegrown BVRAAM, codenamed H4, based on the R-Darter. (Here is the link: http://jczs.news.sina.com.cn/2004-11-27/1029246686.html?from=wap) you can even see some of the missile's spec on this report: "missile length 3.62 m, 160mm in diameter, 125kg in weight, 7500m, 0.9M in height and 120km in range. "Let's go back to the picture of the new missile mounted on the wingtip. Obviously, the white missile mounted on the wingtip is not R-Darter. Compared to the R-Darter, its wings are further back. But other than that, it's easy to see the similarities between the missile and the R-Darter: same tail, same body size. Is this what we call "H4"? Compared to R-Darter, the white missile appearing on the wing tip in the PFX model image moves the wing back, changing the layout of the missile, which is most likely an improvement made to increase the missile's range, because R-Darter uses a duck layout similar to the Israeli Derby missile, which has greater resistance and is not conducive to improving the range. Also interesting is that the code name H4 stands for a glide bomb in the PAF equipment sequence... But the white missile appearing on the wing tip in the PFX model picture suggests that not every word of the 2004 news story about H4 BVRAAM was complete bullshit. It is highly likely that this BVRAAM exists, otherwise it would not appear in any of the PAF's promotional images. I also found a white missile (green box) that is very similar to the R-Darter missile mounted under the wing, does this mean that the PAF actually has the R-Darter missile? I also found in one of Dazzler's responses to a thread on PakistanDefense.pk in 2010 that he said a JF17 pilot friend of his said JF17 was capable of mounting middle range BVRAAM on the wingtip Hardpoint (Here is the link: https://defence.pk/threads/jf-17-thunder-multirole-fighter-thread-3.32359/page-69#post-668661 Is this a reference to the white missile (H-4?) that appears on the wing tips of the R-Darter-like missile in the picture? Or the R-Darter missile itself? Because in terms of time, it's possible to do both. There are reports that the R-Darter entered service with the PAF in 2010, and information that the PAF received an improved version based on the R-Darter (designation "H-4") in 2004. But from another point of view, why is the PAF not equipped with this missile on a large scale, but adopted the SD10 exported by China?View attachment 72832

Hi,

Name one single engine fighter aircraft that has a bvr missile mounted on a wingtip---.

Thank you,Sir!!!Last question: When you say it can be mounted, do you mean SD-10 could be mounted on wingtip?or other BVR missiles?

Those stations could be wired to fire the missiles - but will never be due to their load limits.

Yes, I saw a statement that PAF pilots said JF17 could be equipped with BVRAAM on the wingtips, this was from 2010, so I know what is going on, that unfortunate thing happened in 2011, and before this PAF most likely tested JF17 wing-tip BVRAAM, So there is a PAF pilot saying that JF17 can be equipped with BVR missiles on the wing tip, but the reality is that the structural strength of the wing is very limited, if the BVRAAM is mounted on the wing tip, then the rest of the wing can not be mounted anything, and can not do any large overload maneuvers, I think that should be the case

Exactly.

Iran formally requests JF17 Block 3

Please 🙈 Insort like many others channels like it exaggerate / totally make up ‘news’ for clicks. Strongly suggest that any serious people don’t waste their time watching such utter trash.

the fact remains S-400 and Su30 are in Iran .. and it would be logical for Iran to acquire JF-17 as they fulfill an important numerical gap..

now before all those no body what source says Russians are in Iran..

How does the SD10 compare to the AMRAAM from what you’ve seen and heard

Makes no sense for a big country (geographically) to acquire JF17 they need twin engined fighters
