Maybe the point of using the B2's was the ordinance payload, and not the Houthi Air Defence threat.

Seems to be a show off.
Keep calm and continue arming houties. They are fighting against the most heinous crime done by Israel and actively supported by US. Jordania should be destabilized next, as Immortal suggested some time ago. Resistance Axis must win this attrition war!.

I doubt it. Using a B-2 Spirit with a 14-ton GBU-57 to destroy a fortified bunker is a mission that is far from being a show off.

It is a show off to Iran. They are sending a message to Iran. That work could be done by a B1 or even B52 perfectly escorted by F16 Wild weasels.

I must admit, it is hard to ignore, the element of "message to Iran"

If USA had given 0.01% of bombing costs to Yemen, they would finished Houthis strikes sooner.

One fcking B2 flight is more expensive than half Yemen GDP.

They didnt, so USA must be interested in Houthi mayhem launching rockets for some reason.

Missiles and rockets overflying holy places of KSA can trigger a strong emotional reaction from 1.9 bn Muslim people if someday a error happens. The kind of situations loved by USA ruling elite.

To my knowledge, the B-2 Spirit is the only aircraft in the USAF inventory capable of carrying and delivering the 30,000-pound (13,620 kg) GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bomb.

I know the B-52 was dropped by the B-52 during rehearsals, but the GBU was not integrated into this aircraft.

The GBU-57 weighs nearly four tons more than the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast—known by the nickname “Mother of All Bombs”—and the B-2 can carry two at a time, one in each weapons bay, for a total payload of 60,000 pounds.

With all that said, let’s get back to the GBU-57’s main feature: its ability to destroy targets in bunkers. According to the Global Security and The War Zone websites, a single GBU-57 can penetrate nearly 200 feet of reinforced concrete. The latter website also highlights that, because it is guided by GPS, a B-2 can attack the exact same location with two GBU-57s, increasing its penetration and destruction capabilities against high-value targets, such as weapons of mass destruction depots and command and control centers.

I don't know why it would be a message to Iran. Iran has one of the most advanced technologies in the world when it comes to "liquid concrete"... concrete that is used in underground installations...

Many of the installations are built inside mountains.
Therefore, much deeper and with the capacity to fully absorb the explosion.

Perhaps the only way is a B-61-12 tactical nuclear bomb that has among its modes the underground explosion, in which it is estimated that it can damage bunkers buried more than 100 meters deep. Only with its shock wave.

In an underground installation 500, 1000, 2000 meters deep of solid rock or reinforced concrete, this type of bomb will not be used.

much easier for B-2 to fly over Yemen (where even US MALE UAVs routinely fly) than over central Iran for hours

GPS can be interfered with, degrading accuracy

that said, Iran's facilities are not buried under 500m. Fordow is around 100m under a mountain, new facility at Natanz is 150m deep, and most missile bases are likely 50-500m deep, depending on if you measure the entrances or the core of the base

if US degrades Iranian IADS with SEAD/DEAD campaign to the extent B-2 jets can fly over Natanz and central Iran, they could fire a large number of bombs at the same point and potentially penetrate very far

Iran not only can jammer GPS.

Iran also can do GPS-mil spoofing through replay attacks. i.e: Give a fake position to GPS-mil receivers, without know that is fake.

That's how they captured RQ-170 in 2011.

Two or more B-2s attacking the same target in a short space of time can reach depths greater than 150 meters. The Americans and Israelis use this technique. Each bomb lands 2 seconds after the previous one explodes.

It is important to note that there is always a weak point, no matter how deep or resistant a bunker is, which are the access points. There is no way to protect yourself from an air attack against high-precision weapons. What was valid until the 70s and 80s is no longer valid.

the question is whether multiple B-2s can reach all these sites deep inside Iran

30000lb, thats how much a loaded F16 weighs.
Hats off to the Yemenis people, they have lost everything, hundreds of thousands killed, about 100 thousand children died of famine, millions displaced.
But still refusing to bow down and standing for noble cause and giving hell to the aggressors.

You have strange ideas about this bomb.
You cannot damage a depth of 120 meters by hitting two bombs.
After the explosion of each bomb, new soil and rocks are created.
