50 percent of the poor includes the middle class.

We know that Middle class pays more tax than Modi's rich class.
A lot of these 'poor' middle class businessmen are big time time evaders. Still so many deal in cash, esp in smaller cities. Jis ko mauqa milta hai, tax churata hai. It is only salaried class that is screwed

Even the middle class tax evaders have to pay tax on goods and services

Tax reform is a separate and large subject on its own. No govt has been different when it comes to taxation.

@Paitoo G

Why feel bad for the salaried class? They are the ones who keep bringing Modi to power who steals from them and distributes the loot to his rich Dhando buddies

You are mixing things. There is no new tax structure that has been created by the BJP to benefit the dhando class. It has always existed. No govt is going to change that either. Freebie politics has its limits. Congi govts who are doing this are bankrupt and infra is crumbling in these states. Now your poor delivery boys are falling in potholes and rain water is entering houses of the same people who voted the Congis

Same like pakistan.
Poor people are running the system while elites enjoy at their expense and hardly pay any tax.
It roots back to the British Colonial system and mindset. Slavery somehow still exist.

Not a fan on of any party.

But during Congress era, corporate tax collection was more than salaried class tax collection.

Great that you brought up potholes.

Top 50% is not Modi's rich class. Modi's rich class is less than 1%. If Modi's rich class was 50%, India would be the richest country in the world.

Bottom 50% will basically mean the lower middle class. They will generally be consumers of 2 wheelers and not 4 wheelers. So paying maybe 20% of the total tax collected on automobile sales. Would be buyers of the entry level mobiles, so again paying around 20% of total tax collected on mobile sales. Will not have laptops or computers at home unless their kids are in engineering or computer science etc. At most contribute 5% of GST collected from laptop sales. You can extrapolate this to all products and you will get them paying a lot less GST. I would be surprised if they paid more than 20% of GST collected from individuals.

You did say that the researchers were well qualified, but you have not yet given their names and qualifications.

Under BJP rule taxless slab has rose 2.5x (from 2L to 5L) in just 11 years. Which means real middle class is paying less direct tax compared to Congress era.

I get it that you are not a fan of any party. But in India the democratic system with throw the same shit at you all the time. The govt is what the society is.

The question isn't how much tax do rich people pay.
It's not what percent of total tax do rich people pay.

The question is simple: what percent of one's income goes to taxes (direct and indirect combined)?

That percentage is higher for poor people if indirect taxes form a big percent of a country's tax income. I don't know where India stands compared to other countries but developing countries generally rely more on indirect taxes.

India to extend free food ration scheme by 5 years: PM Modi

The Indian government is planning to continue its free food grains program for five years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday, as it seeks to shield consumers from growing prices of cereals ahead of a general election early next year.

The extension will offer relief to consumers, but it will also lead to higher government spending and require New Delhi to procure more wheat and rice from farmers to sustain the welfare program, which provides free grains to more than 800 million people.

Modi confirmed the move at an election rally in Durg, a city in the central state of Chhattisgarh, where state elections are due this month.

The grains program, estimated to cost the government around 2 trillion rupees ($24.06 billion) this year, was due to expire at the end of the year.

India, the world's second-largest producer of wheat and rice, has restricted exports of both cereals to curb rising prices at home.

A Mumbai-based dealer with a global trade house said the government would be forced to keep export restrictions in place for a longer period because it needs to purchase from farmers to run the program.

"Without export restrictions, local prices would rise above the government-set floor prices, and they would fail to procure enough," he added.

For the first time in eight years, India's rice output is expected to drop this year, raising the prospect that New Delhi will extend curbs on exports of the grain to keep a lid on food prices ahead of elections.

Global rice prices jumped to a 15-year high after India, the world's biggest rice exporter that accounts for more than 40% of global rice exports, curbed exports of non-basmati rice varieties in July.

India last year banned wheat exports in a surprise move after a heat wave curtailed output. :coffee:

Components of PM Awas Yojana

The PM Awas Yojana - Urban has 4 major components:

  • In-Situ Redevelopment of slums using land as a resource, with the participation of the private sector. This mission aims at leveraging the potential of land under slum areas and providing formal urban establishments to slum dwellers.
  • .Credit Linked Subsidy – Under this scheme, the government will provide an interest subsidy of 6.5% on housing loans for 15 years from the start of the loan, which will make housing affordable. The Net Present Value (NPV) of the interest subsidy will be calculated at a discount rate of 9%. The loan amount of Rs 6 lakhs is only applicable for the credit-linked subsidy scheme and any amount beyond Rs 6 lakh does not attract any subsidy. The lending institutions will directly credit the interest subsidy to the beneficiaries’ accounts which will result in reduced Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) and reduced housing loan amount.
  • Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) – In partnership with the Public and Private sector, affordable housing will be provided to the economically weaker sections. The States or Union Territories, either with different agencies or in partnership with different industries can plan affordable housing projects.
  • Enhancement and construction of beneficiary led house – Under this component, the beneficiaries who are not able to avail the advantages of the above three components will be benefited. This mission provides assistance to families of EWS category to construct new houses or enhance the existing houses on their own to cover the beneficiaries. Under this mission, families will get a central assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh to enhance their existing houses or construct new houses.
