Bangladesh Economy

Looks like after 2 difficult years(2024-2025) BD will once again resume its strong economic growth(7% per annum average from 2026-2029). Should edge ahead of India in growth rate from 2026 till the end of this decade, although Indians will still have 10% higher living standards than BD'shis. It all of course assumes that BD can make the successful transition to democracy in 2026/2027.

BD need more solid institutions so that political partymen aka grifters, cannot rob and steal peoples many.

It begins with a solid judiciary free from party politics.

The opportunities for Bangladesh is huuuge. Nowhere else on Earth (besides China) do you have country with such a massive population consisting of only 1 ethnic group, speaking the same single language.

IMF is one of the most respected economic forecasters in the world and they have confidence that BD will be out of the woods within 1-2 years and be back on form as the fastest growing large economy in the world again.

Everything hinges on whether Yunus and his team can reform the political and administrative system to allow the latent talents of the BD population to shine.
 
I know at least three big international fashion houses has moved their production from BD. Just saying
 
Why couldn't the opposition have contested elections and had peaceful transfer of powers, this would have helped continue the economic progress without interruption.. were the election process rigged previously?

Bangladesh is a Low Development Country. LDCs get favorable export deals like EBA to EU which allows LDC states to access EU market without any duties or quotas. Similar to the GSP of the US providing an advantage for products from BD. So the comparison the OP made with India is pointless similar to the growth rate which is due to low base. The LDC status is also not perpetual. Compete on same scale like the rest of us maybe sign FTAs see if BD remains competitive and can export at the same rate as India or any country does without a tag then we can be optimistic about the future of BD.
As a side note, I do hope BD prosper because poverty creates all kinds of troubles in our backyard.

BD lost GSP access to US in 2013.

The comparison was made to show that BD has a faster underlying growth rate as some Indian posters were declaring BD economy dead over the last 3-4 months.

Like I have said before it is all good healthy economy competition between BD and India and the difference in growth rates are only like 0.5% and so somewhat irrelevant.

Good. Looks like US would award BD a GSP status after Hasina has been removed. IMF might've taken that too into consideration in calculating BD export growth.

If large fashion houses are cutting back, it global demand is still high, Bangladesh should be working with smaller international fashion houses to buy a 50% stake in them and work with them to supply them faster, with innovative products.

Remember also that Indian companies will be trying very hard to bring down the Bangladeshi economy to undermine this new government. Bangladeshi companies need to move fast to save their economy and this new government.
