To some degree yes but they're using thunder as the base platform instead of reinventing the wheel. A smart approach IMO provided they stay persistent and finances flow.

IMHO I don't think either the Turks or the Saudis will be interested in this project.
Turkish aviation industry is already too far ahead of us to gain anything relevant by investing in this project.
They would probably prefer to complement/pair their KAAN fighter with a stealthy UCAV than a light manned aircraft.
The Saudis would also not be interested in acquiring a light fighter.

IMO PAF should have focused on developing stealthy UCAVs instead. Those would have made more sense given the current state state of our aviation industry & the funds we can realistically allocate to its development.

Seems like PAF and pac has limited themselves in just regional tech development and not international trend
They want something to go head to toe against proposed Tejas MK2
This may solve reginal security needs but our local aerospace industry will be left far behind

Smart approach would creating local GaN based radar instead of GaS, local air to air missiles UpTo Chinese pl 10 category, making local hmd, different ew, targeting pods, avionics suite, and just using same changes in airframe with ws13 e 97kn, or was 21 105kn engine that's it, otherwise it's cost would come near J10c, it would not make any sense of any potential buyer in our planned markets
