Walmart just leveled with Americans: China won’t be paying for Trump’s tariffs, in all likelihood you will

Lol, the main target is China on 60%, you think imposing 10% tariffs on other counties will make companies move back to US ? Dream on, you know what are the costs to operate factories in US.

The idea is to slowly move production to other countries like India etc.

It will take manybe 5-10 years but anyway a lot of these factories would have moved away from China as Chinese labour costs are rapidly rising.

US needs to source from lower labor cost countries as China is getting too rich now.

China is the last country in the history that labor cost still matters in manufacturing, the time the robot is taking over while China happens to be the king of industrial robots too.

China wasn't a low labor cost country for quite a long time already

Apple CEO Tim Cook addressed common misconceptions surrounding the tech giant's decision to manufacture in China, offering insight into the real reasons behind the company's reliance on the country.

Contrary to the popular belief that companies flock to China for cheap labour, Cook said that this narrative is outdated. "The popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labor costs. I'm not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is China stopped being the low labor costs country many years ago," Tim Cook stated, clarifying that the decision to manufacture in China is driven by a different set of factors.

Cook highlighted the unparalleled concentration of skilled labour in China as the primary reason for Apple's manufacturing presence there. He elaborated on the advanced tooling and precision required to produce Apple's products, noting that China's vocational expertise in these areas is unmatched globally.

"The reason is because of the skill, the quantity of skill in one location, and the type of skill it is," he explained. "The tooling skill is very deep here. In the US, you could have a meeting of tooling engineers, and I'm not sure we could fill the room. In China, you could fill multiple football fields."

Please don't flatter yourselves, Americans and Canadians are fed up with globalism and don't need the rest of the world.

Trump's pick for Treasury secretary tells me there will be currency wars. Bessent's specialty. Overnight, you all will be begging for slop.

America can save billions of dollars cutting foreign aid.

Billions more evicting foreigners.

Please don't flatter yourselves, America and Canada don't need you.

And you can have Mexico too.

Amid the threatening specter of tariffs and trade tensions after Donald Trump’s re-election, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says all premiers are aligned in calling for Mexico to be kicked out of the Canada-U.S. free trade deal because it functions as a “backdoor” for Chinese goods.

“If Mexico won’t fight transshipment by, at the very least, matching Canadian and American tariffs on Chinese imports, they shouldn’t have a seat at the table or enjoy access to the largest economy in the world,” Ford said in a statement on Nov. 12.

He added on Nov. 20, “All the premiers, we know Mexico is bringing in cheap Chinese parts, slapping made-in-Mexico stickers on, shipping it up through the U.S. and Canada, causing American jobs to be lost, and Canadian jobs.”

By the way, Wal-Mart, more than any other corporation, has gutted out our small towns.

It will be a great day when they go bankrupt.

Same for Amazon. Everything in The US is made in China including MAGA hat and there's nothing they can do about it

China basically owns the supply chain from beginning to end. Build a entire eco system. Not every country in china's surrounding or far away can simply replicate that. Wishful thinking

Vietnam's manufacturing industry is currently highly dependent on China's power supply. If the relationship between Vietnam and China deteriorates, China can find a reason to interrupt the power supply to Vietnam.

The US will learn that China is here to stay and take over Latin America "America's backyard" The US can put tariffs on any country it wants but china trade with latin American will continue to rise in the coming years . My prediction it will reach 800 billion US dollars by 2030.

China is making moves everywhere. It's good that America is becoming more isolationist basically surrender every other markets to China. I would like to thank Trump for making china great again!

I know China is no longer a cheap labour country but there is only so much automation can do.

When China will be paying US levels of wages in 10-15 years from now(yes it will happen here as US will have a massive "correction' in next 5-10 years), it cannot produce as competitively as say India where wages would be 3-4 times lower.

Chinese factories are almost fully automated. No other country can compete it's not about wages anymore that's just some old thinking. Robots will do the work twice as fast. China is still not even number one in robot density but it will get there in 5 -6 years. There's so much room to grow.

Oopsie the US spent 7.5 billion dollars to only build 8 ev charging stations in 2.5 years instead of 500k that was promised. This is all you need to know about America infrastructure plan. A big nothing burger how are they gonna bring manufacturing back if they can't even build charging station at affording price. 937 million dollars for each charging station lol china can do it for 5 million or less . Pathetic

China does not have some "magic" no one else will not replicate.

You still need many workers in factories, albeit less than before.

Compared to neighbors in SE Asia, manufacturing wages in China are very high.

China is still competitive because it built huge supply chains, and the state socialized natural monopolies (like infrastructure, transportation, telecoms, minerals, etc.), making production costs low.

Mfg wages in china was deemed not competitive in Asia as early as 2005/06.
Factories moved production to other Asian countries for labor cost arbitrage only to find out china “productivity adjusted” wages was highly competitive
China has not competed on low wage for 2 decades. As anyone with experience manufacturing in China during the past two decades can attest, plummeting commodity prices are due to a rapidly surging level of automation
