Bangladesh Air Force

It's really great to see Indonesia is trying to be independent with local manufacturing.....
When Americans checked our INS Jalashwa which we paid for it was a straight slap on our sovereignty......

Yeah, but the Gandiwa program dont get funded from any government. It is just a proposal from Indonesian Aerospace.

From what I see lately, current administration will likely be more ambitious compared to previous administrations when it comes to be more independent with local manufacturing. Prabowo also turn out to be very nationalistic with banning Apple phone, banning import of salt, and other things

@LeonBlack08 @Afif

Did some more digging. The closest Indian border to that airbase is 14km… also it was the main airbase during Pakistan times and Bangladesh had always plans for it to be main air base but Mujib and later every single administration prevented it to India’s dismay

Edited: Zia was the last person trying to activate it. China is gonna help in reactivation and work will be done in 2028

Theoretically - The only way that base can be protected if we allow China to station troops as part of joint coalition of some sort, which is not a realistic possibility.

I understand their thinking to use the existing facility, but it doesn't seem to be a rational choice of location in modern warfare landscape. Made sense during Pakistan era to have a forward base, but not now.

Funny thing is China is developing it along with farakkah river treatment and lalmonirhat airbase

Guys good news about airforce….

1. One of our largest airbase is going to be activated by 2028, it will be divided into 3 sections… one for the regular Air Force operations, one for airfare cadet training and one for civilian use… each section will still be “ 650-700 acres in size and its location is in lalmonirhat. This will give us a scramble time of 3 mins to choke chickens neck vs 7 minutes from the nearest Indian airbase.

2. Air chief recently went to Zhuhai air show and stayed there for a long time. He also announced aircraft acquisition on emergency basis and mentioned 5th gen aircraft with secondary choice of 4.5 gen aircraft. He also mentioned that the MiG 29s are 25 years old and due for replacement. If we look at Zhuhai airshow news we know that Pakistan signed 36 billion dollars worth of jf17 sales… and Russia got su 57 order from unknown customer. We also know that j35 is being sold to Pakistan and was shown for sale at the airshow. If we are to take chiefs words about the emergency procurement of fighter aircraft… expect anything from jf-17/j-10c to su 57/ j35. Either ways better than buying some EFT garage queens

3. Government is allocating emergency funds for military acquisitions in light of recent Indian agression and threats. We are going to get some new weaponry for deterrence although what exactly hasn’t been announced yet.

That base was long overdue.

And as much as I love its howl, chances of us acquiring the Su-57 in this timeline is close to zero. And guaranteed that the U.S will sanction us. And you know....Bharot. The J-35 has more chance given wallet would allow it.

BAF needs to conduct a strategic review to plan till mid-century.

This review will look and carefully evaluate the specific platforms it intends to buy from which country, taking into account economic, capability and strategic factors.

As for airbases, BAF should take the Taiwan/Swedish approach of both building underground hangars and also ability to operate from highways. All of BD’s airbases on the surface can be seriously damaged in pre-emptive rocket artillery strikes.

This may require specific modifications of long stretches of certain highways to allow wartime jet fighter operation.

Don’t waste time and start the review now. It does not cost much!

j 35 is a better jet anyways... i prefer having numbers over a weapons truck

I agree with you regarding using highway and getting low maintenance platforms like the Gripen. In fact I am all for drone heavy air force - unconventional and we can hide them from enemy better than fighters jets. Given the lack of strategic depth, we have to adopt unusual approaches to keep the enemy guessing.

One possible issue with underground hangars is that it won't be suitable in all areas of Bangladesh because of our geology. The soil is soft and underground water creeps in over time, so the damp conditions will possibly impact the operability of the equipment stored.

It is possible with underground hardened shelters under many metres of concrete on top. Climate control systems can be built in.

More expensive but technically possible.

These will be sufficient to protect from rocket propelled artillery which won't be able to penetrate inside the underground hangar.

Gripen is old tech now and by the time BAF is ready to purchase and induct it will be nearly 2030 - best to focus on 5th generation fighters from China and Turkey for the 2030s now.

So, the advantage is that you don't have to make permanent ramps besides highways that can be picked up and help enemy pin down the places of friendly aircraft operations.

Satellite based imagery has gotten very advanced these days.

USA has at least one orbiting satellite over any particular point of earth every hour. Anything it’s enemy build will be detected within hours.

Our regional adversaries are not to that level yet. But still posses enough capacity to do the same within few days.

Yes. And this is the advantage dura base matting provides. It's temporary. They won't know where it is. It is laid down in matter of less than a hour.

Apperantly, army is ought to receive them in 2025.
Mehh

1. That's absurd.
2. He is going go buy peanuts
3. Don't see this cabinet taking such strong positions. Even with full backing of the nation they are still hesitant on everything.

It will be well within tube and Rocket artillery range of Indian army (which they have plenty of) and flattened within minutes.
Yes!! Exactly!!
India has sent a formal protest but bd isn’t paying attention to it.
They can suck my unwashed ****
Even in an alternate universe, BD ain't buying SU57. Russia's SU57 customer is Algeria. This option is permanently out if we want to remain on good term with the West. You are
too optimistic bro. Air chief didn't exactly said anything about emergency procurement. He said, they are now focusing on MRCA (given mig29 came 25 years ago. And there hasn't been any progress since) Which is set to be twin engine platform from the beginning. Unless that tender is cancelled and a new one is launched it will remain so with previous specs set. So, no J17 or J10.

J35 will be a shock. But I will take it.
Praying to god to be shocked 😐
I know but has lower rcs compared to any other 4.5th gen platforms. The lower the better.

Not all bases, there are few bases that is thankfully outside the reach of Indian MLRS range. IMO, BAF should concentrate on upgrading those.

For exmaple, Coxbazar airport which has been upgraded to BAF air base.

Similarly, Barishal airport should be upgraded.

Also, upcoming patuakhali airport should include BAF base.

Plus, they could also upgrade old patuakhali airport which is under Navy's control.

But these are for peacetime permanent basing.

For wartime, I think BAF must Adopt CONOPS similar to USAF agile combat employment. Using highways as runways to generate combat sorties.

In the end all fo BD is within India's ballistic and cruise missile range. And we simply don't have the resources to posses required numbers of air defense interceptors to outlast their missile stock. So, all permanent bases will destroyed or degraded.
Patuakhali & Barishal all the way. Best option. But these are the two option receiving least of the attention from BAF.

The airfield is owned by Agriculture department. Apparently it was build for use by air tractors of the Department

If it was not for the Navy, Patuakhali airfield would have turned into paddy fields and cattle ranch by now.

The closest Indian military establishment is 130km away
Some Rocket artilleries has 170+ range these days.
