MSC Cruises (Italian: MSC Crociere) is a Swiss-Italian global cruise line based in Geneva, with operations offices in Naples, Genoa and Venice. It was founded in 1988 in Naples, Italy, as part of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

Note: Obviously not all of them are sailing from US shores but some are

It says Swiss-Italian...note this:

Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A., branded as MSC, is an international shipping line founded by Gianluigi Aponte in Italy in 1970. The company is owned by the Aponte family with its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, since 1978

Anyways I find the sheer number of LARGE cruise ships plying the world's oceans (especially off the US) stunning.
I'm currently at 178. and I'm only talking about cruise ship companies that port in the US!
I'm quite sure few people realize or can even comprehend the entire scale of it.

You see pictures like this and say "wow what a shame" not realizing it's a drop in the bucket.

Planning a cruise trip with family. Need some recommendations to family cruises. Not necessarily US based. In fact SEA will be preferred. Some specific information I am looking for:
1. What are some of the best cruise companies in the world?
2. What are the best websites for booking cruises?
3. How do I get information about what experience I will get on cruises. I want to take my parents, so want to be cautious in terms of their comfort.

That's a pretty wide open to interpretation answer. I can only speak for North America but some people's idea of "best" is other people's idea of "worst".

For instance so far I have listed multiple companies that serve or partially serve the US market and there are 187 ships mentioned so far (and I'm not done!). Each line trying to serve some niche marketslice.

So just like picking from 100 hotel chains near Disneyworld you are probably going to get what you pay for (if that). You go budget..you'll probably be on a ship full of budget people. Pick luxury..and you'll probably get stuck with mostly those people too. So be prepared for that.

Thanks, can you suggest any good website, equivalent to booking.com or Expedia for researching and booking cruises?

Certainly Expedia is a "safe" bet for finding a cruise. May not be the best price but you should not expect to be scammed.

I'd go watch youtube videos for reviews.

The last cruise I went on was a package deal from a local business but normally I use Expedia for traveling.
