He's not only a "Yes man", but he's quite inept at diplomacy, which is what his job is supposed to be.

Facing countless challenges put on by a combined west and allies. Lavrov is a foreign minister, and should be judged in his role as foreign minister of his country Russia and not a low level ambassador.

Before the Ukraine war started, he should have shored up support for Russia, in the sense that once Russia began its invasion, it would be have immediate support from its international allies.

He did not. He waited....and waited....and waited, until it was too late. Now Russia is stuck.
