Kharudin Djenot about Danantara

JAKARTA - Senior Economist of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) Aviliani views the presence of BPI Danantara will be one of the driving factors for investor entry into Indonesia.

She stated that the presence of the Anagata Nusantara Power Management Agency (BPI Danantara) was able to provide confidence to investors so as not to hesitate to immerse their capital in the country.

“Investors need partners, especially if the infrastructure is related to public goods. So, it will make investors sure because there are guarantees indirectly, "said Aviliani when met in Jakarta, Thursday (5/12/2024).

Thus, she continued, investors will far believe at the same time more courageous to finance domestic infrastructure development because of the guarantee that comes from the assets of a number of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

"With SOE assets it gives confidence that Danantara assets is large. So, if the investor enters it at least has a partner so that if there is anything have guarantees indirectly, "said Aviliani.

In previous developments, Head of BPI Danantara Muliaman D. Hadad ensured that the new institution would be the second economic driving engine after the State Budget (APBN).

Muliaman said Danantara was present to consolidate the assets of the separated state, then multiply its value to meet the interests of the national economy.“The term is the second engine after the state budget. So, there is an economic movement because of the state budget, and there is an economic movement because it is also consolidation and improve its leverage.

So, hopefully the desire to achieve high growth can be," he said. The former Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for the period 2012-2017 also ensures that Danantara will be managed professionally, transparently, and prioritizes the principles of good corporate governance.

Danantara gradually was prepared as the forerunner of the superholding of the red plate company (SOE). In the initial stage, Danantara managed funds are projected to reach US$10.8 billion from Indonesia Investment Authority (INA).

Furthermore, 7 SOEs will be consolidated to Danantara with total assets under management (AUM) estimated at US$600 billion. This number is predicted to increase to reach US $982 billion in the next few years.

Jakarta. State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir has instructed national airlines, including Garuda Indonesia (IDX: GIAA), its budget carrier Citilink, and Pertamina's Pelita Air, to purchase more American-made Boeing aircraft. As of Sept. 30, Garuda has allocated a total of Rp 494 billion ($31.25 million) in advance payments for aircraft acquisitions.

The directive came after a meeting between Erick Thohir and American business representatives, including US Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir and Boeing officials, at the SOE Ministry's office in Jakarta on Thursday. The visit was part of ongoing talks following President Prabowo Subianto’s recent roadshow to several countries, including the US.

Erick emphasized the need for collaboration with Boeing as part of efforts to rebuild Indonesia's aviation sector, which has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Indonesia currently operates only 390 aircraft, far short of the 700-plane target set before the pandemic. "Solutions like this require cooperation, whether with Boeing, Airbus, China’s Comac, or Russian aircraft manufacturers," he said.

Among various aircraft lessors, Thohir is prioritizing Boeing aircraft purchases, aiming to balance trade relations with the US and strengthen ties between Indonesian SOEs and the American market.

Before proceeding, Thohir plans to ensure that a detailed procurement roadmap is established, allowing leasing companies to negotiate directly with Garuda, Citilink, and Pelita Air. He also hopes these negotiations will enhance trade relations between Indonesia and the US. Indonesia posted a trade surplus of $13.55 billion with the US as of October.

Garuda Indonesia’s financial report for September 30, 2024, shows the airline has set aside Rp 494 billion for aircraft down payments. This includes Rp 383.49 billion for Boeing aircraft, Rp 77.59 billion for Airbus aircraft, and Rp 33.13 billion for ATR 72-600 aircraft. As of September 2024, Garuda’s fleet consists of 159 aircraft, a significant decrease from 210 before the pandemic, with the largest reduction occurring between 2021-2022.

Garuda had previously signed an agreement on September 12, 2014, to purchase 50 Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. However, by December 31, 2021, 49 units remained undelivered due to the Boeing 737 Max 8 incidents. On April 16, 2021, Garuda requested a halt to all deliveries of the Boeing 737 Max 8.

I wonder whether there is benefit for Indonesian Aerospace as Airbus supply chain when it comes to the deal of SOE Airlines with Boeing

Jakarta. State-owned oil company Pertamina has announced a reduction of up to 10 percent in aviation fuel prices at 19 airports across Indonesia. The measure is designed to ease overall airline ticket costs during the busy year-end travel season.

Pertamina CEO Simon Aloysius Mantiri said the discount, provided through the company’s sales arm, Pertamina Patra Niaga, took effect on December 1 and will remain in place until January 9.

“We estimate about a 7 percent decrease from the normal price overall,” Mantiri said.

The discount applies to three international airports -- Kualanamu in North Sumatra, I Gusti Ngurah Rai in Bali, and Juanda in Surabaya -- as well as 16 additional airports, ranging from Kulonprogo in Yogyakarta to Paniai in Papua.

Meanwhile, state airport operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia -- which manages 37 airports nationwide -- has officially implemented a 50 percent reduction in airport service fees for both passengers and airlines during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Indonesia Eyes Bullion Bank to Harness Domestic Gold Reserves

Jakarta. Indonesia plans to establish its bullion bank, leveraging its growing gold production to strengthen the jewelry industry and provide a reliable safe-haven asset, Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto announced on Monday. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is expected to appoint state-owned lenders Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) as key operators.

“I’ve proposed to the OJK that BRI, as the holding company of state pawnshop Pegadaian, and BSI should spearhead this initiative,” Airlangga said during the 2024 Indonesia SEZ Business Forum in Jakarta, on Monday.

Indonesia’s rising gold production, on the back of Freeport Indonesia’s 60 tons annually at the Gresik SEZ, underscores the need for a bullion bank, according to Airlangga.

“This is the first time since 1967 that we’ve reached this milestone. From 1967 to 2024, we’ve produced substantial amounts of gold,” Airlangga said, adding that Pegadaian’s total gold reserves now stand at 70 tons.

Airlangga said that Indonesia has no reason to delay the establishment of a bullion bank, asserting it would benefit the domestic jewelry industry.

“In the past, we merely stored gold in warehouses and recorded its tonnage, not its value. Meanwhile, banks in other countries, including Singapore, list gold as an asset on their balance sheets,” he said.

Airlangga explained how Indonesia has historically missed out on capturing the full value of its gold production. “The jewelry industry often had to outsource tolling services abroad, such as in Singapore. This meant we only earned production fees but not the full value of the gold used in our manufacturing industry.”

Beyond supporting the jewelry sector, Airlangga described gold as a "safe-haven asset" during economic crises, making it imperative for Indonesia to manage its reserves independently.

“Over the past five years, we’ve faced numerous crises. It would be unwise not to utilize our own strengths to safeguard our economy,” he concluded.

A bullion bank serves as a financial institution specializing in the trade and management of precious metals, particularly gold and silver. It acts as a key intermediary in global precious metals markets and provides a range of related services, from trading to asset storage.

Indonesia is doing great in improving her economy. It's KF-21 is also impressive although largely developed by the Koreans. I wonder why Indonesia plays an active role in the Muslim world. It's the largest Muslim nation of the world with likely the biggest economy among the Muslim nations

Soekarno is our first President, he is quite active. He comes from East Java province where the Javanese there is more aggressive in attitude compared to Central Java Javanese.

See our largest Kingdom is Majapahit, home base is in East Java, then second largest is Srivijaya which home base in Sumatra, Sumatran people is also more aggressive in attitude so we see Srivijaya even spans to Malaysia and attacking Vietnam

After Soekarno, Soeharto. Soeharto comes from Central Java. Central Java is wellknown with calmness. Despite Soeharto did invade East Timor but relatively Indonesia focuses more on its internal matter and also regional matter (ASEAN)

Then comes SBY (Central Java), Jokowi (Central Java), both are the same, focusing on internal matter, ASEAN is the limit when it comes to active foreign affairs

Prabowo comes from East Java (father) and Sulawesi (mother). He has been seen as quite pro active when it comes to geopolitics despite only serve for 2 months

As far as I know, it was Champa, not Vietnam, that fought against Indonesia during the Srivijaya expansion. Back then, central and southern Vietnam didn't exist. I don't think Vietnam has ever been in any conflict with Indonesia.

I would say this is likely indication that Indonesia will focus on 42 Rafale and the rest will likely be KF21/ IFX (around 100 maybe - Because we have the production line in Indonesian Aerospace, unlikely just buy 48 planes )

Ya Champa which also live in current Vietnam.

So Vietnamese coming from north ? Inside China ?
That's definitely a controversial question, but most Vietnamese would identify as mainland Southeast Asians. Our history has always been deeply rooted in the north, with Northern Vietnam serving as the cradle of Vietnamese civilization. Even Hue, our former capital, was once part of the Champa Empire.

Ya Champa which also live in current Vietnam.

So Vietnamese coming from north ? Inside China ?
In history, partly yes (for northern parts of Vietnam). China occupied Vietnam (the northern portion) in Qin dynasty and again in Han dynasty when the Chinese forces defeated the Nanyue Kingdom. Since then, northern Vietnam had been a part of China for about 1000 years.

The southern border of China in modern Vietnam changed through time. The greatest extent was reached during Sui dynasty when the border was located at about 12 N For most other times, the border was switching between 14°N (such as Han dynasty) and 18°N (such as Southern Dynasties and Tang Dynasty). The administrative divisions also changed through time, from the initial Xiang Prefecture to Jiaozhi, Jiuzhen and Jiuzhen prefectures, to Jiaozhou province, and to Jinghai Military Circuit (jiedushi).

During the Five Dynasties period when China was in fragmentation, northern Vietnam was controlled by Southern Han, a local kingdom in south China. In 939, the Jinghai Military Circuit broke away from Southern Han. Vietnam was then out of China.

In 1406 during the reign of Yongle Emperor of Ming dynasty, China took over Vietnam again, but the Chinese rule over Vietnam in this time only lasted for two or three decades. Then Ming dynasty withdrew from Vietnam. After that, Vietnam stayed as a tributary state within the Sinosphere but never a part of China again

Vietnam gained independence from China in 938 AD after Ngô Quyen fought with the Chinese army at the Bach Dang River and won. Ngô Quyen proclaimed himself as king and established a centralized government.

Vietnam gained its independence due to the fall of the Tang dynasty, which fell in 907. The destruction of the Tang dynasty left Southern China split into several kingdoms that were not strong enough to control Vietnam.

Remember that the Mongol invasion of China, which lasted for approximately 70 years from 1209 to 1279.Back then china was divided into 3 kingdoms. Jin, southern song, and western Xia.Southern Song Chinese military officers and civilian officials left to overseas countries, went to Vietnam and intermarried with the Vietnamese ruling elite and went to Champa to serve the government there as recorded by Zheng Sixiao.Southern Song soldiers were part of the Vietnamese army prepared by emperor Trần Thánh Tông against the second Mongol invasion.
The ancestors of the Trần clan originated from the province of Fujian and later migrated to Đại Việt under Trần Kinh (陳京 Chén Jīng), the ancestor of the Trần clan. “We also need to be fast, agile and adaptive in executing this project. We must observe the technological changes that appear in the field of electric vehicles, so that we can become more competitive," Kartika said.

He hopes that with the cooperation, then in 2027, Indonesia has been able to produce a battery cell.

Taking into account the potential of Indonesia’s nickel reserves, Kartika continued, Project Dragon is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain of electric vehicle batteries.

In addition, this project is also expected to provide a significant economic impact for Indonesia such as creating jobs, attracting foreign investment and increasing the capacity of the renewable energy industry in Indonesia.

This project will also no doubt support Indonesia’s commitment to achieve the net zero emissions target by 2060.

"Through multi-stakeholder collaboration, including the government, SOEs and international partners, Indonesia is moving towards an independent future in sustainable energy," Kartika said.

Erick Thohir cuts SOEs to 30, this is the company that will be Consolidated

Tuesday, December 24, 2024 - 14:14:00 WIB

1735105778890.jpeg

JAKARTA, iNews.id - The Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) is aiming at 45 flagship programs over the next five years. One program is to SOE companies from 47 to 30 companies only.

Although reluctant to detail the 45 priority programs, SOE Minister Erick Thohir ensured that the number of companies is still ongoing.

The options taken by shareholders to reduce the number of SOEs two of them are mergers and inbreeding shares.

"There may be 45 programs that we will encourage for the next five years, including how the consolidation of the 47-30th companies," said Erick when met at the Ministry of SOEs, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (24/12/2024).

Recorded, there are several SOEs that are planned to be merged, namely PT Pelni (Persero) and PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) into PT Pelindo (Persero). Then, PT INKA was merged into PT KAI (Persero).

“I’s one of those who was this INKA train maker. This all needs research and the process is also we know, but the direction is yes to 30," he said.

Shareholders also proposed that the holding of the Hospital SOE is under the auspicus of PT Bio Farma (Persero) which is the parent of the Holding of SOEs.

Then, the red plate company of the forestry sector and plantations is also inseparated from the downsist efforts. The Ministry of SOEs plans to combine Perum Perhutani with the Nusantara Plantation Holding (PTPN III). With the joining of Perhutani under PTPN III, the land area managed by this company will reach 2.2 million hectares.

In the infrastructure sector, BUMN works to be consolidated include, PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk or WSKT, PT Hutama Karya (Persero), PT Nindya Karya (Persero).

Furthermore, PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk or WIKA, and PT Pembangunan Perumahan (Persero) Tbk or PTPP.

In the scheme, Waskita Karya will be in the center, Nindya Karya and Brantas Abipraya were merbursed to Adhi Karya, then Wijaya Karya will be merbursed to PTPP. Of the seven companies consolidated into three companies only.

Erick asserted, the number of SOEs does not necessarily reflect the health of the company's business. Conversely, with a slimmer number and clearer cluster, it is expected that SOEs can contribute significantly to the national economy and be more synchronous with the needs of the market.

“Some can be a year, there can be two years. But if the Pelindo, Pelni, ASDP yesterday we have sounded also to the Minister of Transportation, he supported because this is the solution as well," said Erick.
