Syrian Civil War and The future of Syria after liberation

Now the question is... How many months will last current Syrian regime without attack Israel.

What happened between Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad al-Jalali and Ahmed al-Sharaa, commander of the Military Operations Department:

Al-Sharaa asked the Prime Minister to continue in the position to conduct business until a new government is formed

Al-Jalali told him that all the ministers are in Damascus today and have not left, and that they will go about their work, and Sharia law has blessed that

Al-Jalali and Al-Sharaa agreed to end armed demonstrations in Damascus and throughout the country and prevent the presence of weapons on the street

Al-Sharaa warned against approaching or tampering with state institutions and held Al-Jalali responsible for protecting them.

The previous government remained and did not leave due to the presence of international protection and guarantees, and Al-Julani cannot assume power due to the international directives he has.
Both parties work within external plans and arrangements, with two paths and no choices
And people believe that the scene is spontaneous

A smart and beautiful step, because the institutional vacuum results in chaos that causes the collapse of the state, and politically as well, to communicate with other countries with whom they have a partnership or interest other than, of course, bad friends. Then comes the step in which the state has a new constitution that preserves the rights of all, the majority and the minority, without sectarian or national discrimination, and presidential elections. A new and fair way for the state to rise again!

Syrian air force and missile systems have fallen in the hands of new regime too? It will be interesting see what they do with that in the coming months.

already destroyed by Israel at first opportunity. now we see what Syrian air defence was stopping Israel from doing all this time.

Now that HTS has a border with Israel. Be interesting to see how HTS can aid their Hamas allies.

Israeli aircraft destroyed the Syrian naval force

4 USA 1
12 USA 2
6 Iranian tiers
All missile boats are old and have no operational value today
But the moral value is stripping Syria of all its conventional weapons
This contradicts the 1974 ceasefire agreement

Like Iran and Lebanon Hezbollah, I guess Syrian army must have underground facilities too, with military hardware.

One Syrian fighter jet in the hands of a suicide jihadist could be a lot more dangerous for Israel than anything in the Assad regime.

Israel regime was so stupid facilitating Assad fall, they will regret.
The best for Israel interests was a endless fighting between Assad and Rebels, without winner.

There is NO such thing as the Syrian Airforce left - it has been blasted all to hell. Syria's air defence network and systems, fighter jets, planes, they dont exist anymore. Israel blasted them all to hell.

There nothing left to do anything with - have you not being following IDFs strikes in Syria ? There is no airforce left. Nothing, nada .... There is no navy left now either.

The service members of the "Syrian Airforce" should all be fired on mass, there is quite literally nothing for them to do at all now.

Nothing.

Nothing at all for them to do.

From Syrian jihadist leader to rebel politician: How Abu Mohammed al-Jolani reinvented himself

Syrian rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani has dropped that nom de guerre associated with his jihadist past, and been using his real name, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in official communiques issued since Thursday, ahead of the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.

This move is part of Jolani's effort to bolster his legitimacy in a new context, as his Islamist militant group, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), leading other rebel factions, announces the capture of the Syrian capital, Damascus, solidifying its control over much of the country.

Jolani's transformation is not recent, but has been carefully cultivated over the years, evident not only in his public statements and interviews with international outlets but also in his evolving appearance.

Once clad in traditional jihadist militant attire, he has adopted a more Western-style wardrobe in the past years. Now, as he leads the offensive, he has donned military fatigues, symbolising his role as the commander of the operations room.

But who is Jolani - or Ahmed al-Sharaa - and why and how has he changed?

The IS-Iraq link

A 2021 PBS interview with Jolani revealed that he was born in 1982 in Saudi Arabia, where his father worked as an oil engineer until 1989.

In that year, the Jolani family returned to Syria, where he grew up and lived in the Mezzeh neighbourhood of Damascus.

Jolani's journey as a jihadist began in Iraq, linked to al-Qaeda through the Islamic State (IS) group's precursor - al-Qaeda in Iraq and, later, the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI).

After the 2003 US-led invasion, he joined other foreign fighters in Iraq and, in 2005, was imprisoned at Camp Bucca, where he enhanced his jihadist affiliations and later on was introduced to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the quiet scholar who would later go on to lead IS.

In 2011, Baghdadi sent Jolani to Syria with funding to establish al-Nusra Front, a covert faction tied to ISI. By 2012, Nusra had become a prominent Syrian fighting force, hiding its IS and al-Qaeda ties.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi sent Jolani to Syria to establish Al-Nusra Front

Tensions arose in 2013 when Baghdadi's group in Iraq unilaterally declared the merger of the two groups (ISI and Nusra), declaring the creation of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS), and publicly revealing for the first time the links between them.

Jolani resisted, as he wanted to distance his group from ISI's violent tactics, leading to a split.

To get out of that sticky situation, Jolani pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda, making Nusra Front its Syrian branch.

From the start, he prioritised winning Syrian support, distancing himself from IS's brutality and emphasising a more pragmatic approach to jihad.

Joining al-Qaeda

In April 2013, al-Nusra Front became al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, putting it at odds with IS.

While Jolani's move was partly an attempt to maintain local support and avoid alienating Syrians and rebel factions, the al-Qaeda affiliation ultimately did little to benefit this effort.

It became a pressing challenge in 2015 when Nusra and other factions captured Idlib province, forcing them to co-operate in its administration.

Reuters
Jolani rebranded al-Nusra Front as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham in 2016. The following year it became Hayat Tahrir al-Sham

In 2016, Jolani severed ties with al-Qaeda, rebranding the group as Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and later as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in 2017.

While initially appearing superficial, the split revealed deeper divisions. Al-Qaeda accused Jolani of betrayal, leading to defections and the formation of Hurras al-Din, a new al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria, which HTS later crushed in 2020. Members of Hurras al-Din, however, have remained cautiously present in the region.

HTS also targeted IS operatives and foreign fighters in Idlib, dismantling their networks and forcing some to undergo "deradicalisation" programmes.

These moves, justified as efforts to unify militant forces and reduce infighting, signalled Jolani's strategy to position HTS as a dominant and politically viable force in Syria.

Despite the public split from al-Qaeda and name changes, HTS continued to be designated by the UN, US, UK and other countries as a terrorist organisation, and the US maintained a $10m reward for information about Jolani's whereabouts. Western powers considered the break-up to be a façade.

Exactly that.

I remember, back in 2021-2022,people here including sometimes @Ali_Baba and @UKBengali not believe me when I talked about Erdogan's threats and expansionism towards my country. I'm mentioning it because it was the period it reached a height. Because from 2020 and until early 2023,the Turks had escalated the situation really badly.

Back then, when I presented their claims and talked about Erdogan's propaganda, they didn't believe me. When I mentioned Erdogan,Akar and Cavusoglu's demands and talked about how ridiculous they were, many people here were skeptical. Iranians knew,Egyptians knew, some Pakistanis too understood. But most were like "he's Greek,he's not Muslim,he's exaggerating. White people are like that, they are imperialists, colonialists, Turkey must be the victim".

The narration later changed to include Aleppo,Mosul,Kirkuk,Gaza,Al Quds.

Of course,Gaza and Al Quds were off-limits.

But Syria wasn't. The backstabbing of Syria, the destruction of this secular government that was barely trying to survive and rebuild,is disgusting. A lot of people here don't have the slightest idea of what that means. Turkey just destabilized the region AGAIN.
Radicals are in control of an ENTIRE vast country. A country that fully protected the right of religions and PROTECTED THE LEGACY and monuments of thousands of years of civilization. A faction that has stated before they want to create an "islamic emirate" in Syria,is in control. Netanyahu has EVEN MORE excuses to not let Syria prosper again. The Israelis already started annexing parts of Syria. For the Iranians, their corridor to Lebanon has been destroyed and a salafi government placed.

And let all those who cheered for Erdogan, see what just happened. All those who used to say "Turkey is a peaceful country, they don't want anything from you,it's Greece that causes problems and wants too much". Wake up and see what's going on.

The entire region is in turmoil because of Erdogan's treachery. Right when the Israelis declared a ceasefire with the Lebanese. Who talks about Gaza now? Forgotten already. It's all about Syria now.

In pictures: Strikes in Syria

BBC

As we reported earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based human rights organisation, says Israel has carried out more than 100 air strikes in Syria on Monday, with a research centre suspected of links to chemical weapons production reportedly among the sites hit.

Israel says it is acting to stop such weapons falling into the hands of extremists.

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, says such action is necessary to ensure his country's security.
